Except you totally can. Other people have different ideas of what's ugly than you do. It's pretty simple.

"Ugly" is a very strong word for a woman who is in shape, takes care of her appearance, and has a face without any shocking characteristics. I'm not OP, but there's a huge difference in saying you don't find someone particularly attractive and you think they are flat-out ugly.

^This. Not finding someone attractive is not the same as "ugly". Ugly implies that their appearance is actually physically revolting. Seriously, when did this become a thing on the internet? Because in RL most people still seem to know the difference, at least in my experience.

this x100. i'm actually surprised by some of the comments in this threat tbh, because it seems most people here don't understand the difference between finding someone attractive personally, and acknowledging that there is a mainstream ideal of beauty that people like megan fox fit into (and as a result of that, she certainly isn't "ugly" regardless of your preferences).

I find people who look like they're made of plastic physically revolting.

What the hell is this thread?

"Ugly" is a strong word for someone who takes care of herself, is in shape, and has a face without any shocking characteristics?

So, those things automatically make you not ugly despite the fact the attractiveness- I'm not even talking beauty, just plain ol' okayness- is extremely subjective.

Ugly is not a strong word for someone you don't find physically appealing, no matter their hygiene, size, shape, health or physical characteristics. Ugly may very well be the right word if that person finds the other extremely unattractive.

This isn't just semantics, this is people telling people what they should be not be deeming unattractive because the person they deemed unattractive "takes care of themselves" and can therefore not be ugly by anyone's standards.

Yes, how dare anyone impose on your right to call someone ugly?

Seriously, unattractive does not equal ugly. Unattractive is literally "not attractive". It implies no more than that. Ugly is going beyond that all the way to the opposite end of the spectrum.

Ain't no one infringing on anyone's rights to do anything here.

My issues is with assertion that physically fit people who take care of themselves and who don't have any shocking features can not and should not be considered ugly, based on anon's comment and comments of others in this thread.

Physically fit people who take care of themselves CAN be considered ugly- appropriately, no less- and I think it's ridiculous to say otherwise.

Calling someone ugly is always am insult though. It's always at least a little mean, and is usually very very mean unless it's clearly a joke. It's not really about telling people they can't have standards, it's more about telling them not to be dicks about someone's looks.

With Megan Fox, I think a lot of people think it's "safe" to call her ugly, because she's had plastic surgery and they have decided for whatever reason she is low-class, trashy, or a slut (which are all terrible things to call someone too, I hope you'd agree). It's a way to be mean and it's also an indirect way to reinforce women's self-esteem problems, because a lot of average everyday girls will hear someone like their dad or brothers or coworkers or classmates ragging on a celebrity like her and calling her ugly, and the very natural and logical conclusion a lot of girls come to is, "if that's what they say about a celebrity like her, how much of a gross ugly pig must they think I am?" It's insidious.

I agree. Who the hell is anybody to judge? Seriously. :( Women are judged all the time by looks alone and it's dumb.
