idk, do they get really high salaries or something? I can't really imagine why anyone would want to be a gynecologist but that's just me.

...because he had a family member with cancer? Because of the hours? Because it pays well? Because he likes helping people? Because guess what, looking at bunch of saggy/smelly/infected vaginas isn't really all that fucking sexy.

Why study any part of the body, really? Why be a colorectal surgeon? Why be a pediatrician unless you like to look at naked youngsters?

If it's for a perverted reason, being a gynecologist would probably kill it off fast. They don't just see nice, young, healthy vaginas, they see diseased vaginas, unhygienic vaginas, old vaginas - vaginas all day, erry day.

I mean women being doctors isn't a thing that's always happened so at one point they kinda had to be.

As for now, I don't really know, but I will say that as someone who studies biology, you get pretty detached from what you're studying, at least in a personal way. It's just...science. (I'm sure this isn't true for all but I think it is for most.)

I'm more comfortable having a female gyn, and thankfully the lady I see is fantastic, but many women don't care as long as they're good at what they do, and that's fine.

(Also, when you think about it, some women are attracted to women; is that equally creepy to you?)

Because it's a job and they get paid? Honestly, male OB/GYN's outnumber female in my hospital.

I don't think I've ever stopped to contemplate why someone does a job. I'm pretty sure that it's definitely not for a perverted reason unless you want to assume male family doctors are perverts as well for this same mythical reason.

Because human anatomy is an interesting thing, and the most interesting parts of human anatomy are things you don't have yourself. Vaginas may as well be magic to a lot of guys, so why not study those suckers?

In addition to the reasons given in the thread, you do realize that a whole lot of gynos work with pregnant women and deliver babies? That shit is fascinating bordering on miraculous.

(Though come to think of it, I heard once that Dr. Mendelsohn -- a man -- believed strongly that men shouldn't be in the delivery room because their brains are not equipped to handle something so incredible. I mean, aside from the hard parts of labor, which they are also not calibrated to withstand and often can't watch. But he meant that seeing a new life just magically appear into the world is too mind-blowing for men to handle.)

you don't seem to realize that for doctors, it gets all about work pretty fast. when your trade is looking at vaginas, it might be sexy like, the first couple days and that's it. also, most doctors are not 12 year old boys, they can be, like, professional. for all the legitimate bad doctor complaints, assuming they're trying to get some action is pretty out there.

Would I rather have a female doctor? Yeah, I admit, but because of my own weird insecurities, not because I have some paranoia about doctor's trying to check out my junk.

Nah, son, do you also assume male doctors who want to specialize in people's rectums must be gay? Some people view certain body parts as entirely clinical and separate from the person they're attached to, as a curious biological puzzle to be examined and solved. Anybody's who's ever been stood over by a couple of doctors casually discussing all the ways they're about to slice-and-dice you like a dead frog in Biology class should probably assume that's how most male gynecologists view female genitalia: "Ooh, what an interesting specimen!"

I don't care. I'm just glad my gynecologist became one because he's the first competent one I've been to and it took me forever and several bad experiences to find that. He's also the first one who treated me with respect, so nope, you're off-base.
