Your attempt to cause wank is really very clumsy.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-23 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
well, call me a boring piece of shit but I'm all aboard the thor train and loki (especially fanon!loki) can suck it

1) those are not the only things that make a character interesting to people

2) even if you find Thor less interesting than Loki, it's perfectly possible to still like Thor more

(Anonymous) 2013-11-23 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
They're both boring to me.

There, I can feel superior to both sides! :D

lol

I love Thor and find Loki boring. Crazypants, right? Different strokes for different folks.

I'm adopted so maybe that's why I find Loki's angsty past stupid. It's Thor's backstory that is interesting and complex to me. Also Thor actually grows as a person. Loki stays in the same place. (That said I find Loki okay.)

Thing is though, I don't think you actually care about either character. It looks like you're just trying to imitate those weird Loki fangirls on tumblr.

But in all seriousness, a huge portion of the MCU fandom seems to agree with you, so you should be in good company.

I find Loki an interesting character, but with every movie it's becoming harder and harder for me to like him. (And I'm getting tired of his antics in general tbh.)

OPINIONS, RIGHT?!

This is probably a troll secret meant to stir up wank, but I kind of agree, actually. Loki's a three-dimensional character with understandable flaws and relatable motivations, and even though he does terrible things, he still remains somewhat sympathetic instead of becoming a moustache-twirling caricature. Thor is good and just and pure, but not in a particularly interesting way.

There are numerous reasons to like Thor more than Loki - he's the good guy, for one. He's also got a lot of funny one-liners in the first movie (haven't seen the second yet). Also, his looks and body type are probably a lot of people's cup of tea, in an aesthetic preference kind of way.

I generally like nicer characters over angsty/evil ones. I think Loki's a fine character, but I have no interestin Loki fanworks, or fangirling over him. So yeah I prefer Thor.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-23 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Your superior tone is really bothering me here because I really don't think you can have loki without thor. It's their relationship that makes the characters interesting and more dimensional and without each other Loki would be a villain with no hope of redemption and thor would be a regular boring superhero.

They bring depth to each other OP.

Even as someone who tends to enjoy writing characters with tragic pasts (not everyone of course though) , I think "tragic background" is a really weak reason to say one character is better than another. Characters can be interesting for many reasons, their personality, their problems, their background and their story.

Also even a character with the most tragic background can be frustrating if background / woobieness is ALL THERE IS to a character, or if they do the same dumb shit over and over and then pull the "tragic background card" .

(Anonymous) 2013-11-23 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Some people just prefer heroes. Personally, while I enjoy villains and what they bring to the story, I'm much more interested in characters that are heroes (especially if said hero has a tragic backstory such as a villain that became a hero). It's all about preferences. I'd pick Thor over a power-hungry villain like Loki any day.

I should mention that I haven't seen the new Thor movie yet and if any character development happened to Loki then I may change my tune about him.

3/10 can barely be bothered to comment. Try harder, it isn't difficult.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-23 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Did Loki have a tragic past? I mean, he didn't know he was a Jotun. Up until his hand turned blue, he mostly had a normal if rather socially maladjusted past (well, as normal as Asgardian royalty gets, anyway). It was only on finding out that several key portions of said past were a lie that his history became sort of retroactively tragic and he took a train straight to crazy town, which really seems more like a tragic present to me. With a side order of 'holy shit, did that ever knock a few screws loose', because anyone who jumps straight from 'my life is a lie' to 'so genocide the bastards' was probably not the most stable to begin with.

Loki is a fascinating character to me, but that's mostly because he's the sort of crazy I find fascinating to watch. And does a mean line in mocking sarcasm, which I always enjoy. I'm not so fond of Thor because Thor is aggressively shiny and I have trouble with that in a character. However, he is also hilarious when he's in the mood, so he gets points for that. He also has a surprising amount of good sense when you take care to rap his pride over the head a little first, which is very refreshing.

All of which makes no nevermind, because my favourite MCU characters are JARVIS, Natasha and Nick Fury, so I'm perfectly happy to let the Norse gods and their fans duke it out in their corner while I'm over here admiring my pretty spies and AIs, oh my.

Even with everyone picking their own poisons, I'm fairly sure there's enough MCU to get us all happily drunk.

+1
