I agree, although less to spite the Joanlock shippers.

He liked her, she liked him, and (according to Sherlock at one point, before Joan made it clear such statements were unacceptable) it had been a while for her. Two consenting adults, yo. I bet it was intellectual and enjoyable. And Sherlock was like a primary school student about it, but then that's been consistently one of his character flaws in this version (childishness instead of pure dickishness)

+1 to all of this. I don't ship it, but clearly she wanted to sleep with him and so did; there's nothing wrong with that. Sherlock's reaction infuriated me but also wasn't terribly surprising.

I would rather Joan find someone else (especially if it were another woman, though it isn't likely), but I'm not upset over it.

clearly she wanted to sleep with him

That is very much up for debate because I didn't see that in the first episode at all, which is why it came so very much out of the left field later.

Joan is way too pretty for him.

She can do so much better.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-04 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
She's so pretty, and he's so... old. And his eyes droop.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-04 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
That's a really bad picture of him, though.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-04 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
LL is 45 as of yesterday. Rhys Ifans is LESS THAN ONE YEAR older than her.

But that hair...

Am I the only one who just doesn't find Elementary!Mycroft terribly interesting? Like, some people are commenting on his looks, and I agree; but I think I could get over his... bland appearance if he had a more dynamic personality.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-04 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
I still need to watch the new episodes, but reading the original story of Mycroft's introduction... is 'dynamic' a word that really comes to mind to describe his personality? Now his mind might very well be a dynamo, but how would one get that across?

But, see they're not even trying with THAT. There's little to no indication that he's smarter than Sherlock in this; or indeed, smarter than any average person.

And, honestly, if they're going to have him have a relationship with Joan, then yes, he should be more interesting than his canon version.

I don't care what he looks like, but yeah, he's just kind of dull.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-04 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
He definitely doesn't strike me as one of the kind of brilliant badasses we get in some versions. I'm cool with a Mycroft who would rather run a restaurant than be the British government, but I still want him to be cool and a genius. At least he's not embarassing like the Stephen Fry version?

Yeah. They even show him going on a case with Sherlock and Joan, and we don't get the impression that he's any sort of genius...

Granted, I'm one episode behind, but from what I've seen, ita.

Is that the guy from The Replacements? Like, the soccer player/kicker?

[personal profile] sootyowl 2013-12-04 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
That's Rhys Ifans. I don't know if he was in the Replacements as that character, but wiki says he was in it. He was in the newest Spider-Man as the Lizard.

Joan can do better than Mycroft.

My problem was that Sherlock went on this whole rant about if Joan slept with his brother it would be because she secretly wanted to bone him. I was side-eyeing Sherlock pretty hard there.

As long as Joan doesn't marry Mycroft or hook up with Sherlock, I'm okay that they spent the night together.

[personal profile] fenm 2013-12-04 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
The oddest thing is: He said all that in the season premiere, when it seemed like they didn't sleep together, but then when she actually reveals she HAD slept with Mycroft, this doesn't come up at all. It honestly feels like they completely changed their minds about important aspects of that subplot between episode 1 and episode 7.

Does anyone else wonder *why* they slept together?

(Anonymous) 2013-12-04 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, regardless of anything Sherlock said, while they seemed to get along, I never really got the impression that they were all that attracted to each other. So, I'm left wondering if it was a sort contrariness on Joan's part (because of the way Sherlock acted about it) and on Mycroft's part, maybe a little revenge plus something to do with whatever scheme he has going on.

Yeah, I really don't get it, either...

This plotline is the reason why I quit watching Elementary, and I hate Joanlock (I don't object to people shipping it, I just really, really hate the ship itself). It came out of nowhere and spoiled the whole episode where Mycroft was introduced. And IA that Elementary's Mycroft is a sort of blah character.

But I am not terribly surprised, tbh. I've long ago seen that the series has a tendency to introduce stupid plot twists when it comes to romance (see Irene/Sherlock... ugh. It freaked me out so much back then, I very nearly quit. But then they made it better. And now they made it worse again).

(Anonymous) 2013-12-04 12:41 pm (UTC)(link)
i would only object to this on the grounds that I ship Joan and Bell. Mind you, I only ship Joan and Bell because it would drive Sherlock crazy, which (as much as I love him) I think would be hilarious.

Secret 5 - Elementary (TV series)

[Picture is Dr. Joan Watson, as portrayed by Lucy Liu, and Mycroft Holmes, as portrayed by Rhys Ifans, from the TV series "Elementary". They are both sitting together indoors and looked unamused.]

I'm glad they hooked up and I hope it happens again just to spite the Joanlock shippers.
