Surviving the ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE

(Anonymous) 2013-12-14 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
I've been watching The Walking Dead recently, and I've noticed that pretty much everyone makes stupid mistakes in their master plan. I mean, everyone immediately goes for a gun, and then a building...so they can get trapped there and run out of ammo/food/water. It got me to thinking, so I'm wondering, F!S, how you would survive the zombie apocalypse.

(Personally, I'd steal an ambulance and then immediately drive to a smaller town. Assuming it's a plague sort of thing, not everywhere would be hit at once, and I could BUY a gun in said small town. Ambulances, on the other hand, are filled with useful medical supplies and--in my area at least--are generally armored. Way more important to have movable shelter than a gun at first, imo.)

Nah mate, just grab your friends and get down the pub until it blows over.

Good plan. So...Winchester?

If I could, I'd hole up in a costco, and hope they had back up generators.

SO MUCH food and water. You'd have a hell of a time defending it from all the other humans, though.

Alternate plan: Hole up in a Wal-Mart, because they also have guns n ammo.

TBH, I don't know that I'd try.

Hahaha, I wouldn't be able to.

I'd probably hull myself somewhere safe-ish, keep gun nearby, and blow my own brains out if they get too close.

Depends on the time of year. If it's not already winter, head deep into the woods with supplies, possibly even farther north than I am, build a little cabin and wait it out. I know how to survive in the woods and I know how to grow my own food. I'd bring with me whoever also knows all this shit and is willing to work. Isolate and wait. I don't imagine the zombies would go too far into the deep north woods.

Well I live on an island where not only do we have plenty of boats, but even some large canoes to stack up supplies. That and we have a few small uninhabited islands nearby but far enough where zombies would take forever to get there. So my plan would be to get close family and friends, pack up what we want and need, and steal a boat. If we can't get a boat, then share a canoe and paddle out to one of the small islands. Although a perfect situation would be to get in touch with a naval fleet. So I guess heading to a military base would be a perfect option if they had people who were heading out to the ocean.

My town has a county police HQ and a couple of hardware stores for weapons and tools, several supermarkets and a local food bank for food supplies that should last a couple of years, then get to my relatively rural college that is situated on a meander and ultilise the horticultural and agricultural facilities.
alternatively, build flammenwerfers.

Find the nearest TV and watch the military instantly crush the zombie hordes. Then wait for directions.

I'd go into work. Its a highrise office block with keycard security doors, loads of vending machines, and a fully stocked cafeteria, as well as a big screen in the rec room. Not to mention 'net access, and a store room full of refills for the watercooler.

Should be the safest place around, I mean who goes to work in a zombie apocalypse even though most corporate workplaces are probably the safest and most well stocked places around. Plus if you get bored you can always break a window and hurl office equipment down on the zombies for lulz as the military do mop up.

Assuming it's an actual successful zombie apocalypse then, even though all reason says chunks of rotting meat shouldn't be able to overwhelm anything.

Yeah, I don't think I'd survive. I've got old parents to look after, and traditional zombie survival lore says if you're going to slow yourself down with old people or children, you're doomed. So, probably doomed.

Also, depending on when the zombie apocalypse struck? - if it's winter here, also doomed once the electricity and power go out. Winter is too long, too cold, and even if you chopped down every tree you could find for firewood, finding an actual fireplace (not natural gas) would be really difficult, especially while dodging zombies.

Basically, I'm going to die and come back as a zombie. Hope you can stop me!

And you'll be reluctant to bust the heads of your elderly relatives, so they'll rise from their graves to eat you. That's how it always goes.

I never know why there aren't more bicycles in zombie apocalypses. They go on all types of terrain, you don't run out of gas, as long as zombies are kept to a shuffle the car vs bicycle speed issue isn't really that important...

I think it's partly because the amount of gear you can carry on a bicycle is limited, and there's no protection between you and the zombies -- which may not matter too much if all the zombies are behind you, but if you're trying to break out of an infested area or traverse a road with a few of them scattered along it, you want something between the zombies and your tender flesh. Also, cars can be used as relatively safe shelter for sleeping in, while a bike can't.

I'm pretty much convinced I would be dead in a matter of hours in a zombie apocalypse, but if I did somehow not bite it immediately then I'd try get to higher ground I guess? This is if it's the regular shambling kind of zombie, if they're like the left 4 dead ones though I'm fucked.

I'm pretty sure my country's military would handle it pretty easily. But if not, I'd just die and hopefully become a zombie.

I'd go bush if it's just me, otherwise hole up somewhere with the necessary supplies and wait for security to do its thing. Maybe go bush anyway.

At my old house I was really close to a river, so my game plan was to steal a boat and then make my way out to the coast and then travel to a smaller town or maybe just live in the damn boat.

But now I'm much closer to the city so I'd just barricade myself in. We've got enough food in the house to last us until the inital panic and warfare is over, and then we've move from there.

For a long-term place to survive, my dad and I would probably strike out for a remote mining site in the middle of the bush; they'd have a lot of supplies and fuel, and are usually very far away from major settlements.

Honestly I'd love to see an Australian zombie story, mostly because guns are immensely rare here and we have a smaller military. It'd be easy enough to avoid zombies - most of Australia is uninhabited - but then you'd have to survive the outback.

It's winter. The moment it dropped below zero (which it does most nights) all of the zombies would freeze solid (since their hearts don't beat, they don't regulate their internal body temperature, nor would their cells have the energy or fluids required to do so even if they did).

Then you could load them all up in a truck and incinerate them.

I'd probably barricade my house with my family, and hope all the scavenger animals we have in the area were really hungry.
