I have this weird thing where I really like that in femslash but don't go out of my way to find it in guyslash.

But seriously we need more of it. A lot of slash fans have really weird ideas of how relationships work. That's aside from the whole top/bottom absolutism issue. I hate that shit.

Ugh, yes, this. I'm a lesbian, so male slash kind of isn't my thing, but I do NOT understand the whole "someone has to be the top and only the top and never the bottom and someone else has to be the bottom and only the bottom and never the top" thing that seems so common. It's like, when someone asks me who the "man" is in my relationship with my girlfriend. Umm, neither? We both have lady bits; that's kind of the whole point of being a lesbian.

My best guy friend is gay, and when he gets drunk, he has a LOT to say about the whole rigid top/bottom misconception, haha.

I think you hit the nail on the head with the "who's the man" thing. So much slash (and some femslash, but I've seen less of this) still sticks to this weird rigid gender categorization? Like not only are bottoms/more passive types/submissives always bottoms/passive/submissive, but they're the "girly" one, too. And they probably cry more, or something.

Which is totally bonkers, because even in het relationships with two gender-normative people, these things are not this ultra cut-and-dry. (Seriously, I am a pretty girly girl, and I have "topped" some macho military dudes in my time.)

Yessss... I wish femmslash mixed it up a lot more. And femmslash always seems to be written like softer than slash. Man, please just let them go at it and have their sexy times, build up that ust, can the femme domme please.

Oh my god, I love it when the more 'femme' character tops her more 'butch' partner in femmeslash. So hard to find though!!
