Re: So, should Santa be black?

Does Santa being white take away from who Santa is? If it doesn't matter what he looks like, then why does he have to be changed?

I think that's one of those arguments that only works one way. One side is inclusive, the other is exclusive.

The article wasn't exactly inclusive either, since it was about making Santa strictly black from now on. That's pretty much the same thing.

I think we read different articles.

It does not have to be changed, it's not a matter of necessity. It would simply be nice to see other takes on his character.

And no, casting movies should not be random. Casting should make sense. That is why different Santas could contribute to the image of the character - because their differences are what gives artists more opportunities to play with the idea.

DA but I think what they meant was that casting calls should be open to everyone.

In general, yes. But if the producers specifically want their character to be white, why would they call for non-white actors?

DA

I don't think producers should limit race when casting something like Santa. They should be open to everyone. I can't really think of a good reason why Santa in a movie should only be cast white.

wwwwellll maybe because the producers want the aesthetics to stay the same? If they go for the traditional, look-im-santa!11 image of Santa, why ever would limiting their casting call to white people be an issue?
