This happens in a lot of books/movies where one character is left out of the loop but the audience isn't. For some reason it's particularly hard for some viewers to grasp theory of mind when applied to fake characters.

Yeah, I could make the OP's argument for a lot of characters that get unfairly maligned for being "stupid." I particularly hate it when people calling the characters dumb for not figuring things out yet are spoiler hounds and have more information than even most of the fandom. Of course everything is "obvious" when you already know what's going to happen.

Ah, hindsight bias. It makes such an ass of people.

But yeah, it's really irritating.

It's like the LotR movie when Legolas goes "They're taking the Hobbits to Isengard!" and "A red sun rises, blood has been spilled this night." and everyone was like DUH. CAPTAIN OBVIOUS! because we, as the movie goers, are omnipresent and already know that.

I shake my head so damn hard a people who can't separate what the audience know with what the characters know.

Considering how many battles going on (Gondor, Boromir tells the Council where Legolas was a part, is doing not so well), at the time, 'blood has been spilled this night' is an epically dopey thing to say. Also, the sky never turns red again, but that's not Leggy's fault, I'll grant you.

Though I completely agree with your point otherwise.
