I just want Korra/Asami.

I think it'd be neat too, but I sincerely doubt it will happen.

what I want ain't gonna happen

I think the narrative will have to bend over backwards several times for them to even be friends.
Goddamit Mike, Bryan and your moffat-tier writing.

Pretty much this.

I doubt it but I would be ecstatic if it did.

All the characters seems pretty straight to me,especially the main characters.

Secret 8 - Legend of Korra

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-20 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a promotional image of the cartoon series "The Legend of Korra". It shows the titular heroine standing over a metal structure overlooking a city by the mountains. She is a young woman with dark olive skin, long brown hair pulled back, a slim, muscular build and wearing blue and brown clothing, some of which appears to be made of fur. She isn't wearing sleeves, but she has a few armbands.]

I feel like if an American (somewhat) mainstream 'children's' show was to be the first to feature LGBT representation, it would be this one. I hope this is the case, because that'd be pretty neat.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-20 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated was the first.

Fanon isn't canon. We all wanted Velma/Hotdog water, but you saw her kiss Shaggy. You didn't see that with the other love interest.

subtext is still subtext, even if it is pretty strong. I think OP meant that they wanted the show to openly address a characters homosexuality and leave no doubt. There have been a few cartoons in the past where creators have said that certain characters were meant to be portrayed as gay but they couldn't explicitly say it due to the networks (Gargoyles, Hey Arnold, and Static Shock to name some, but there are probably other examples as well)

(Anonymous) 2013-12-20 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
i could see it happen if they were willing to make it a swan song kind of deal

like, willing to make this their last big project on children's tv, just in case it really pisses the wrong people off
insanenoodlyguy: (Default)

It doesn't work that way

[personal profile] insanenoodlyguy 2013-12-20 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
Even if they are willing, Nick would have to be.

That would be great, but, I really don't see a show on NICKELODEON being the ground-breakers in this.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-20 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
I think I'd rather that honor go to a show that's actually good.
belacqua: (atla | spirit)

Yeah, I wouldn't trust ATLOK with this.

Uh. I really don't think Korra is the show to look to for good representation of any kind. :\

(Anonymous) 2013-12-20 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Unless you're looking for representation of a Sooper Awesome Gary Stu that the Korra writers think we're tuning in for, not, yknow, the fire-tempered Avatar.

We haven't managed to wrestle a decent plot out of it after 2 seasons, so I wouldn't hold my breath.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-20 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
I think Adventure Time has got LOK beat.

PB freaking inhales the scent of Marcelines old shirt and has a picture of her taped IN HER CLOSET.

There was the episode where finn kissed a frog prince because he was helping bro out.

BMO and a Bubble fall in love and want to get married, though I guess they're both genderless.

+1, sort of

Yeah, it's not looking likely. ATLA, maybe, since that had something resembling quality control with other writers and directors. Korra started out fine, but Bryke just can't keep characterisation straight over a longer period of time, it seems.

[personal profile] sachiko_san 2013-12-20 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
Didn't you get the memo? Bryke is done pandering to fans after the whole love triangle fiasco.

Nickelodeon has only ever had subtext. Very, very, very much in the closet subtext. I think the closest they ever went was having Mr.Simmons' boyfriend in that Thanksgivings day special. It is canon that he's gay, but Nick of course was never going to let them say it. That table scene, though, between the boyfriend and the mother? Ouch.
