I kinda hate Nolan's Batman trilogy and especially the sort of rabid fanboys who believe they're some pinnacle of filmmaking. Ugh no. To me they're just boring, joyless and pretentious as hell.

It's like oooh, you're into superheroes but only when it's dead serious, you don't like the campy stuff that has jokes in it because jokes are for children. Look what a mature geek you are.

mte

I mean, there were good moments but overall it was so un-Batman-ish

Pretty much. I go because I can't not, but they don't go in the DVD collection and I only see them once.

I haven't even seen "Man of Steel" yet.

Yep. I grew up loving DCAU Batman, where there was a careful balance between humor and seriousness that drew me in on an emotional level (seriously, some episodes will make you fucking cry), but I just rolled my eyes at the Nolanverse's attempts at depth and complexity in exchange for a single shred of joy. I think it says a lot that the only thing out of the entire three movies that almost everybody respects (Ledger's Joker) is also the only one who succeeded at the balancing act of darkness and foolishness.

If you have not watched The Dark Knight Returns animated films I recommend. I didn't think I'd be happy with someone other than Kevin Conroy, but holy crap Peter Weller.

Oh, thank you! I forgot all about that release because I decided to wait for Part 2 before watching. Yessss.

oh for fuck's sake why do people have to be like that? one half whining how the old batman movies made their actuallysuperdark!batman gay and silly and whatnot, and the other half complaining how the Nolanverse is joyless and pretentious because it's not silly enough? do we really need to do that? I *love* the '66 Batman Movie AND the Nolan Trilogy, precisely because they are two completely different approaches to a character who has been re-interpreted countless times.
Nolanverse is like an experiment of what Batman could be like in "the real world". (at least from TDK onwards. IDK what BB was supposed to be :P) It's not about being extra serious adult manly mangeeks together.
Whether you like it or not, that's a question of taste, just don't go calling movies "joyless" or "pretentious" just because you can't appreciate what they are.
