It's so stupid but it drives me nuts when fanfiction says he dyes his hair blond. First off, it's not even blond, more like an ashy brown. And second, hair is usually darker at the roots so it would make sense for it to be darker where his hair is shaved and lighter where it's longer.

yeah, also, sometimes brown hair tends to bleach if you spend a lot of time under the sun, so of course the parts of his hair that are under the sun rays more directly would look lighter

He's not a douchbag but he's blunt and honest so it comes off as rude sometimes.

Oh I've ranted about this before anon; the SNK fandom cannot understand anything subtle or nuanced and instead acts like four-year-olds with shiny objects.

Does Jean have MOMENTS of being a moronic douchebag? Of course he fucking does, he's fifteen. But all they are is MOMENTS and the rest of the time he's also brave and talented and cunning. HE SAVED MIKASA GODDAMN IT.

Exactly!! He saved Mikasa, and afterwards didn't expect to get any credit for it. And even though he has feelings for Mikasa, he supports Eren instead of being jealous of him, and doesn't expect Mikasa to like him back. And he's usually the one holding it together and comforting others in situations where everyone is upset.
But no, fandom still loves depicting him as an immature idiot. Character development, what is that?

When I was in school a blonde girl a couple of years older than me braided her hair into a coronet braid on the afternoon bus. Her hair usually looked bright sunny blond, but that day she looked almost brunette because even bright blonde has dark roots naturally.

So I agree with you. Shave his hair and you might find the stubble is a lot darker than the longer hair was before.

fanfic that gets character description wrong for something that is a visual media and you can fucking SEE WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE drives me off the wall. it's not a dealbreaker or anything but every time shit like dean winchester being described as blonde, ripped and tanned* or w/e, i want to ask the writer if they've actually seen whatever it is they're writing fic for.

*editing to add that that's frequently done in contrast to in dean/cas fics where castiel is always slim, pale, and dark haired and is always the ~bottom~ so he gets feminized and i just get yicky feelings whenever i see it.

Oh my god THIS. I constantly see fanart that has my favorite character drawn with the wrong eye color, which makes absolutely no sense when there are MULTIPLE close-up shots of his face in canon where you can see his eye color very clearly.

Is it really that difficult to double-check the source?

We're going to have to agree to disagree on that one, because the whole brunette/blond debate really varies according to location and has actually caused problems for people describing suspects in police matters. Some people define "blond" as "anything lighter than very dark brown/black."

I personally look up official descriptions before I write fanfiction, but it doesn't surprise me at all when people have different perceptions of color than I do, especially when it comes to hair.

It gets even worse when fans use his haircut (and general demeanor) to make him a punk and/or delinquent loser in modern AUs.

HE WAS IN THE TOP 10 OF HIS CLASS. IN THE ARMY. He might have been doing it for selfish reasons and he can be an insufferable asshole at times but goddamn he has the skills to back it up! You do not get into the top ten of a military class that accepts crippling injuries and DEATH while being a delinquent.

And now it's the year of the horse and the fucking horse jokes have started again in earnest. Kill me now.

The horse jokes are so unfunny. I don't even know where they came from besides the one time Eren said it. It's ridiculous how hard fandom latched onto it.

And on another note I am so sick and tired of Mikasa being portrayed as a creepy, jealous yandere in every fucking fanart.

Or Eren/Armin as this innocent wide-eyed uke that everybody adores. Um, did these people even watch the show or read the manga? -_-

They have obviously not seen this kind of hair color IRL. There's also the possibility of sun faded hair especially if Jean used to live in a farm or whatever hahaha.
I don't know dude, let them have their kinks. Usually these kind of things come when you don't have enough references or come up with something quick and then decide it's canon because other options didn't occur.
