The injuries thread...

(Anonymous) 2014-01-05 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
How did you get your scars or break your bones?

I've only ever broken my arm and it was in the first 5 minutes of my very first (and only) karate class. I begged my mum for lessons for ages and then when we were doing warm-ups by running around the room an older boy pushed me into a wall.

I broke my wrist when I was about 5 or 6. I was running wildly around our apartment, went to go around a corner on the slippery linoleum (or something) floor right in the front hallway, slipped, slid and crashed into the wall, and then jammed my left wrist right into the angle between the floor and the wall real hard.

That's the only serious injury I've ever had, luckily.

Damn that sucks anon. Ever going to give it a try again?

I've got all kinds of scars and bones. Standing out ones are:

- Long thin scar on arm from job as a gardener, took a chainsaw to a really big succulent weed thing (bigger than me) and one of the leaves/spines cut my arm open.

- Scar-hole in knee from a fall I took in a storm on a boat. Handles on fire extinguishers CAN stab you if they hit you hard enough.

- I've dislocated the one knee 4 times, each time more painful than the last and it makes me really nervous to do anything that puts stress on it. Like running.

I fell on the playground. LOTS of times. Running, fooling around, you name it.

Fell up the stairs and smacked my head on the edge of a tiled step.

I've never broken anything. All my scars were received in mundane ways.

Scar on my chin from a piece of glass falling on my face. Scar on my foot from stepping on a bone in my yard (Yooooo living in the rural south). My dad would always ask of if we wanted stitches and at that age we were always like Noooooooo. So, I never got stitches. I literally had duct tape as a bandage one time.

Two scars on my hand from once when I was young and trying to help my Mum in the kitchen- I was putting something in the pan to cook, and hot oil splashed up.

Another one on the back of my hand from where I burnt myself on a hot cookie sheet.

Another burn scar on my upper arm from where I ran into a rack of hot pans.

Some faint scarring/marks on the edge of two of my fingers from burning myself with steam.

Scars on my knees from tripping and falling, and bloodying them up some.

That's all I can think of.

Did the other kid get tossed out of the class for being violent and causing harm? At the dojo I used to attend, he would have.

Once I playing around with an old exercise bike, the pedal fell off, and I got stabbed pretty deep in the leg. The small area is still completely numb to this day. And then there's the incision from my abdominal surgery. Oh, and, of course, the damage my cats have wrought over the years, little monsters. Mild stuff.

I'm always surprised when people break their bones in these sort of mundane ways. I mean, I've never broken a bone, not even when I was ejected from a car in a rollover crash.

I do have some serious burn scars, though, from a motorcycle accident when I was a kid.

Last time I broke bone, I was 3, so I don't remember it. I liked to jump/"skydive" off the back of the couch and onto a tile floor, and one day landed wrong and broke both an arm and a leg.

Four days and two surgeries later when I finally came back home from the hospital, what's the first thing I did? Climbed onto the back of the couch, and tried to jump off of it.

I never broke any bones, which is actually a miracle, considering all the things I feel down from... I seem to have very solid bones.
Two of my more interesting scars are burns - one pretty big one on my right inner ankle, which was a second degree burn: My father took me on one of the first rides on his new bike and I was stupid and got off on the wrong side and touched the hot tailpipe with my leg.
The other is a small and perfectly round scar right under my left hand's thumbnail. I have no idea which degree that one was, but I got a drip of burning/molten plastic on there once.
Oh, and I also got my right thumb caught in a bread slicer once, but luckily, it didn't go deep enough to cut it off.

I was playing 'scissors and glue fight' with my friend in kindergarten, a game which consisted of him chopping at the gluestick I was holding with his scissors, when he missed and chopped my pinkie instead. I think he cried as much as I did. Left a scar across my finger, right on the joint.
I also have a small burn scar on my chest from a flaming marshmellow + windy weather.

I'm completely scarred all over my back and chest area because of some very shitty acne. Not nice, I'll never be able to wear anything short sleeved or low cut again. Which sucks, especially in summer.
I really wonder, sometimes: There is this whole fat acceptance movement, and they go on and post tons of pretty fat girls, but they all have the same flawless (or flawlessly photoshopped) skin as the thin models. It's kind of sad, really.

I've managed to never break any bones, although I've lost count of how many times I've sprained my ankles, so there's that. I have plenty of boring scars- cat scratch, impressively skinned knee, forearm burn from a hot cookie sheet etc. The interesting scars are:

-the large one on my foot from fucking sharp gravel being dragged over the top of my foot by the tide. THANKS PACIFIC OCEAN, I LOVE YOU TOO.

-the little one on my side where an asshole child pinched me really hard when we were in preschool. I still have it, fucker. >:(

-honorable mention to the little one above my ankle from a piece of glass (dropped a glass barefoot), for the trouble it caused me. It developed a seroma, but it took like three medical professionals (and a fucking x-ray to double check there was no glass embedded in my leg) to tell us that's what it was and that it's totally benign. If I'd gotten a stitch put in the cut immediately, it wouldn't have happened. But B vitamins and a pressure bandaged closed it up in like 2 days, after having this annoying, mysterious, sock-ruining oozing wound for 3+ weeks. *sigh*

I"m pretty sure I broke at least some bones in my left foot trying to kick a rooster that was attacking me. My toes bend funny now.

Never broken a bone and I have minimal and mostly story-less scars. (Although I do like to tell people I have a rottweiler bite scar just to see how freaked out they get before I show them that it's a teeny little line where a wonderfully-behaved dog nicked my finger when we collided while playing.) But I do have a tiny lump of what I think is acne scarring on the back of my neck, and I like to call it my abduction scar because it's right where they pulled the chip out of Scully's neck.

I fell off my bike, stood up and scratched back on a wardrobe.

I also have a tanline from six months ago when I went kayaking and I'm not really sure if it's ever going away at this point.

I've got a scar on my side from heart surgery as a baby, one on my knuckle from a n IV at the same time, one on my shin that I think was from a blown IV also at that time, one on my temple from being hit in the head when the rope snapped on a cinder block that a friend was swinging around like a doofus when we were 10, and had a broken tibia from a fall ata skating rink that I didn't even want to go to when I was 12.

But I've spent the next 17 years being pretty injury free.

I have at least one scar on all my fingers from accidentally cutting myself growing up (my family isn't big on knife safety), I like the one I have on my thumb (or it is basically in my palm), which is shaped as a V from when I tried to cut a cucumber in half on my friends birthday, like 10 years ago.

One of the scars I have on my knees are from my first big girl bike, which was a bit too big for me so when I tried to get off it I fell down on the asphalt.

I also have scars between my boobs from drunkenly losing cigarettes down my cleavage.

Oh and under my foot I have a scar from the beach (with a piece of glass or stone still in my foot).

I also got two scars on the inside of my upper arm from my birth control, on is a straight line and the other is a circle.

And that was the start of a really long list of scars, I am seriously clumsy. Oddly enough I have never broken anything, but I can almost put my ankles in a 90 angle, from twisting them too many times....

I'm not realizing this sounds weird, but my friends love to talk about their scars. Most of them come from silly stories or things they're proud of (wartime or something like that) and I'm always slightly jealous and ashamed because 99% of my scars are self inflicted. :(

The only ones I can ever really talk about are my chicken pox scars and that one massive scar from a car accident.

I only have a couple of scars and have never broken a bone (to my knowledge)... One of my scars is from when I was a little kid and apparently my mom kept the barrettes for my hair in a glass jar, and I tried to get it by myself and dropped it and cut myself on a piece.

My other two scars are more interesting. One is from a couple years ago when I was trying to introduce two of my rabbits to each other. Did not go well, and not only did they start fighting, but they wound up rolling in a furious furry tangle of bunniness into another room. I followed after, managed to separate them, and went to grab one of them as she was trying to evade me to get at the other bunny again. Touched her from behind, she thought I was the other bun, and turned her head and bit down hard. So now I have a scar from where a bunny accidentally attacked me. ;)

The other is from a con where I was cosplaying Lunatic from Tiger & Bunny, and the boots I was wearing didn't fit very well around my skinny calves and a rough edge kept chafing on the inside of my knee. After a day of that, I had a big painful red mark that stayed visible for a few months. It still turns up when I take a hot bath. Every time since then, I've worn leggings underneath the boots. :P

Twice in my life, I have fallen on my face and landed on my chin, so I have a pretty good scar there. When I was a youngun, I was riding down a hill on my bike and hit a patch of gravel, and fell off and broke my arm. As a teen, I also broke my toe by walking around the room and smashing it into a piece of furniture.

Wow, I'm a klutz.

I broke my wrist when I was younger - maybe 11 or 12? My brothers and I were playing bankers, cops, and robbers....or something. I just know that I was a jewel thief and had to make a quick getaway. I grabbed the loot and hightailed it outside and hopped on my bike and off down the driveway to make my escape. But at the last minute noticed a car coming and slammed on the brakes, which resulted in me being thrown sideways and throwing out my arm to catch myself and *snap*. That put a quick end to that game.

Sliced my thumb open on a cat food can when I was a kid. Only time I've ever needed stitches.
