IPad vs Kindle Fire (HD)
I am leaning toward a Kindle HD for several reasons. It is cheaper is one. She won't be using it for anything other than reading books/browsing the web, and I won't have to deal with iTunes, Apple, or constant Apple updates.
But I was hoping for yall's opinions on the matter.

If she browses a lot, I'd go towards an iPad. iPads are good browsing machines and are made for internet usage. However, e-readers are better to actually read books on. They don't strain your eyes as much (I've found) as iPads. E-readers are also better for night time, as an iPads glow can affect your sleep cycle/drowsiness level. Something about the light makes your body think it's still day or something.
E-readers also have updates. Software updates. Of course, those can be manually set as well.
But if you think the Kindle HD will do, go for it? I mean, it is cheaper and if your mom doesn't do way too much internet stuff, it will probs be alright.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-12 01:16 am (UTC)(link)IPads are decent but over priced, and kindles are glorified eBook readers. The Nexus 7 is in the price range of the kindle but it works great for what you're looking for.

My grandfather has a Samsung Tab and I had problems using it, even if I do have a Samsung Galaxy phone, the iPad is just more intuitive. The updates aren't really an issue for me.
And you don't really have to deal with iTunes, well not on a computer at least, and on the iPad it is no issue using it. I might connect my iPad to my computer like once every 3-4 months, mostly to change whichever episodes of shows I have on it before going traveling. Then again my use might differ from someone elses use.
But really tho, just get your mother the cheapest alternative, that was what I did for myself and that just happened to be the iPad...
*Which was the cheapest option for me, so I am confused by people saying it is more expensive.
