What are some secrets you've made that ended up more wanky than you intended? And what other people's too!

And what any secrets that you tried to cause wank and didn't have any luck with?

Husky wank?

To my surprise, about 70% of the secrets I submit become wanky. Usually it's over some minor thing I mentioned. I really don't know how it happens. Sometimes I understand why (something carelessly worded or some throwaway line that turns out to be a sensitive issue with the fandom) but other times I'm just wondering what happened to the actual content of my secret.

I once submitted a secret about pretending to be a waterbender in the shower. I added a little joke about showering naked. Y'all went off the charts with that one like it was the biggest deal in the world.

I feel ya. I submitted a Downton Abbey secret about how I read fanfic at work. The wank was minimal. Like, barely there.

Usually when I submit a real secret I'll toss in another for fun. The goal isn't really to cause wank but just to have a fun thread to look forward to if I start to have second thoughts about reading the thread for my real secret. But I must be an idiot savant because the most innocuous secrets that I really thought would just prompt joke threads have gone off the rails in spectacular ways I never could have forseen.

I feel like smoking in general is a good wank topic, since non-smokers hate being around smokers smoking and smokers get defensive. And it isn't really brought up that that much.

But, yeah, visually smoking looks really cool.

I don't think any of my secrets started any wank, actually. Maybe because I usually make secrets for tiny fandoms whose fans are incapable of creating a proper shitstorm.

I've had people jump at me, sure, and I was called a troll twice, but no wank ensued.

I made a secret saying that I love all the female characters, and I was maybe 30% joking, 15% trolling, and 55% serious. But the amount of angry replies it got were hilarious.

Everything I say here tend to have the opposite effect of what I intended, ie intentional wankbait being ignored and honest awkward phrasing getting ever more twisted and piled upon...

I wouldn't say any of mine have caused real wank, but I do tend to under-word my secrets, which causes people to take away a different point than what I meant and sometimes get mad at me for that. :(

Last week I made a secret that I had a feeling would spawn wank, not because I was trolling (it was a genuine legit secret), but because it was... very disturbing. It was posted yesterday and ended up being overshadowed by the rest of yesterday's secrets. I was relieved, but also kind of disappointed at the same time.

Also, does anyone remember that one Avengers secret about how the OP thought the Avengers were all Republicans? And instead of erupting into wank (like OP probably intended), the thread ended up being full of civil discussion? That was a pleasant surprise.

I made a secret once about feeling annoyed when my kink (chubbiness/weight gain) was left off kink lists. I knew there'd probably be a bit of wank, but apparently I caught F!S on a bad day...

The kicker is that I wasn't even trying to start wank with that one. Or rather, I thought it'd be so dull and uncommented on that I made the language slightly more aggressive, and thought with that it'd get maybe twenty comments vs two.

And I've lost count of my wanky-on-purpose secrets that were total duds.

One secret that got quite a bit of wank... I probably shouldn't have named the person the secret was about (at least not so soon) in the thread. There was more interesting comments of people speculating on who it was than the comments saying how they messaged said person and making it sound like an attack.

I complained about my fandom being kinkshamey about watersports but not incest, age-gap, etc, and tossed in a throwaway comment to encourage any lurking fellow kinksters in the same fandom. One of the named users called me an entitled bitch because they interpreted it wrong due to the last line. Sigh.

I think I've had a secret or two go wanky, but usually not related to the secret itself - rather, some form of derailment or off-topic comment would lead to wank.

I haven't had major wank, but I don't make a huge number of secrets either. I've posted a few that I knew were unpopular opinions and would probably take some flak, and they did. But the intention wasn't to create wank, it was just to get stuff off my chest that I didn't feel safe saying openly (that's why secrets are a thing, right?)

I once made a Touhou/Homestuck secret that went ok here but EXPLODED in Tumblr, with almost all the readers there denouncing the OP (me) for being a "stupid wish-fulfiller who just doesn't get fandom", and that was the nicest of all the responses.

Needless to say, my expectations of that site took a giant nose-dive. I ranted about it here once I found out about it and I never looked back since.

I made a secret that I think BBC shows are bad. There was wank all over it. I really didn't expect that.
