Any tips on how to be more confrontational?

(Anonymous) 2014-02-13 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
I am REALLY bad about not confronting a problem that I know I should to resolve the issue. I'm bad at tackling something in a punctual manner. This can be just about anything really. I'll just hide and ignore the problem until time builds up where it's ages until I finally address the matter. And I know how self destructive it is and I want to break out of this bad habit because I can't live my life like this anymore.

I mostly just remind myself that 1. It's something that needs to be taken care of, or it will negatively impact someone I care about/me, and 2. The worst that is likely to happen really *isn't* that bad. It might suck for a while, but at the end of the day whatever suckage is most likely to result is more than worth it for the good stuff confronting it will bring.

I know that's probably not a lot of help but...yeah. ^^;;

Make a list of problems you regularly confront or think you have a good chance of having to confront in the future. Write down what you think would be a good way of confronting each of them, with caveats depending on different varieties of problems.

Next time one of those problems comes up, try to follow your own advice, adjusting for the circumstances.

When a problem you've never thought about before comes up, think "what would [insert person you admire] do?" And, if feasible/appropriate, do that.

Doing things you don't want to do is always hard; I use cheatcodes.

Naw, but I try to find solutions that feel like I'm skating by my problems with minimal effort; trying to trick my brain into thinking I'm not actually doing this thing that stresses me out.

I second writing down what you need to do. Make a notepad on your computer and just write out what you need to do and how you are going to do it. Getting organized can help you not feel so overwhelmed, and it feels good when you can erase something that you don't need to worry about anymore.

Practice.

Also I talk myself up in the mirror, otherwise it will build up until I snap.

Working in a callcentre helped too
