The scene was a a reference to hentai doujins. Don't ask me why, but there are lots of doujins about guys or girls molested/raped by faceless old men. That's why a lot of people were saying that the scene was like one of their Japanese porn comics. The fact that Armin was molested by an old fat man was very hentai-like. And then you have the "I used to be straight, you made me gay", another common hentai line.

I don't think they even SAW the molestation. They barged in right afterwards and the one guy (Jean) who was with Armin and saw (and also heard what the man said) told Armin he would take care of the gag.

No one was laughing though? Only Jean was right there when it happened. And when the Creepy Guy starts talking to Armin when Armin is supposed to gag him, Jean puts his hand on Armin's shoulder and says he'll take care of gagging him. Jean clearly was disturbed? And certainly not laughing.

I know hardly anything about this series (I only know the basics and what's been spoiled by people I follow on Tumblr, haha), but if there's one thing I can thank 'Attack on Titan' for, it's allowing this wonderful video to actually be a thing.

It is. But like the zombie genre, just because humanity is under threat of being eaten alive by monsters doesn't mean that humans will stop being bastards. There's political intrigue, classism, secret conspiracies, and all the other sorts of shit that exist in any society. Dealing with the monsters usually means dealing with that shit too.

I did find it a bit iffy that Sasha and Connie seemed amused at Armin's expense in one of the last panels, but was the scene supposed to be hilarious and hot? I didn't really think so, especially judging from Jean's reactions.

Although I'm not saying Isayama did a great service by adding this. But this just feels like you're trying to stir up some wank, OP.

I'm not so sure, no one seemed to care about the molestation, only Jean because him and Armin have become close friends lately. I was pretty mad about this, with Mikasa observing the scene without giving a shit about her friend being molested. Fuck her.

While I don't think it's impossible that the author had some consideration for this being a "fetish" scene, in the manga it was still portrayed seriously and not as a joke. Considering the manga's plot has been one disturbing event after another, and only now has molestation entered the picture...? Plus, I believe this manga is marketed toward teen guys, right? It's actually kind of amazing that the author didn't choose to have one of the female characters in that position - not even Historia herself.

I don't think the mangaka WAS going for hot or funny. It was a serious scene - the whole manga is pretty serious and dark in general, and this scene had the same tone. Wasn't played off as a joke, character was genuinely distressed, bad guy was actually creepy, and this was the first instance in the entire show that a character, male or female, was put through a blatant on-screen sexual situation. The bad guy in this case is part of a conspiracy of bad guys that have been pretty consistently creepy, so I'm not sure why we're supposed to assume the author had any different intention in this scene.
