Everything I said is absolutely true. It might not be in line with your experience, but that doesn't make it bullshit.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-25 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, it's bullshit.

Dangerous bullshit to be preaching to strangers.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-25 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, better to just shut up, behave, and put your faith in the hands of people who don't even know you enough to even KNOW what's in your best interest.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-25 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
leaving someone who is potentially a danger to themself or others to fend for themselves is never in their best interest. ever.

Several psychiatrists who treated me were completely incompetent morons, up to the point of it being laughable. I'm not talking about one single occasions, I'm talking about at least 5 of them. Or, you know, every one who actually tried to treat me, except one of my school's psychologists, who - lo and behold - was actually not "qualified" to treat me. It was suck a fucking joke. Combined with my experiences and those of my friends I have ZERO faith in psychiatric care. Hell, I don't even consider them real doctors. I don't even consider it a real science.

I wouldn't put my faith in the hands of one of these "professionals" again if you paid me money. I'd rather take my chances.

>how is this point being lost on you?

It isn't. I just think there are worse things than death.

Are you trolling?

(Anonymous) 2014-02-25 02:25 am (UTC)(link)

"how can you judge that they were "incompetent morons"?

Because they believed their own bullshit, and completely nonsensical fabrications. For example, one of them got it in their head I have PTSD and must be an abuse victim. Another one even called in my mother to talk about whether she had a "normal" pregnancy. Another one thought that me reading superhero comics was a problem. PTSD guy also thought my not being interested in a relationship at 19 was not normal. Seriously, I WISH I was making this shit up, but I couldn't if I tried.

Clearly, I'm not going to convince you. But in my experience I encountered more harmful people than helpful ones, and while I might just have an unusually shitty experience, I simply do not believe my experience would be an isolated incident. The only thing that therapy did for me was waste my time, and my parents' money.

You really do sound like a troll at this point, especially considering the way you only reply to stella, who is a bit of a controversy magnet re: mental health issues.

Yup. Putting your faith in medical professionals sounds just about right.

I personally consider it worse than being suicidal. And I was suicidal. I'd still consider being committed worse. I'm basing it on two very concrete examples of friends, and my own experience of very closely avoiding it.

If we're talking about long-term: yes. There are worse things than death, losing your freedom and control over your own life is something I consider worse than death.

The thought of being supervised for 24/7 ALONE is bad enough.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-25 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
The typical situation is: you are in crisis, they put you into a facility until you are no longer in crisis, and then explore outpatient options. Long-term commitment isn't on the table unless you're so messed up no meds or therapy can keep you on your feet without being a danger to someone. In which case, sorry, that's where you need to be, and if you feel like your freedom is worth the possibility of causing grievous harm to others, I wonder about you.
