That makes sense, though, since in games you're in control of the character on-screen so you're "responsible" for the horror that may occur to them. With movies/shows/books, you're more or less a passive observer, so it's easier to detach from. Like I can marathon scary movies no issue, but I play Silent Hill and I'm sleeping with the lights on.

Jesus. That series tears your heart out on a fairly regular basis, but Xion was the one what hit me most...mostly because she had to be killed by her best friend, and he (and everybody else) was going to forget her after. Just...it'd be hard to make it more tragic than that.

I'd amend that a bit; from what I've read, the 2-10% range is in line with other false reports of crimes, but it only counts cases where a report was actually made to the police.

The false accusations I've seen (and yes, I've seen multiple cases; I'm afraid I knew some fucked-up people when I was younger) never involved the police. One was a whisper campaign, a rumor spread on purpose to hurt someone. Another was a social ploy to get sympathy and attention, without any regard for the feelings of the person accused.

Ask yourself: how many people have you known who would maliciously spread rumors to hurt someone? How many people have you known who would make things up for attention? Do you think those people all make one exception to the lies they'll tell, leaving out rape because that would be uncouth? People online routinely lie about having terminal diseases just to get attention, after all.

This kind of thing is, in my view, yet another manifestation of rape culture. When the very way society talks about sex enables rape culture, it also enables the development of things adapted to live within that culture. When we're conditioned to make these mental exceptions for rape as opposed to other crimes, we open the possibility for people to exploit those exceptions. That's why we have to work to end rape culture, to change the horrible statistics and the horrible attitudes that give rise to them. But I don't think we can do that by pretending that one of rape culture's manifestations doesn't exist or isn't important or shouldn't ever be mentioned.

I know I'll probably get called an MRA for saying this, but that's exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about.

I wish the writers had gone one step further and made the son a daughter instead. There was 100% zero reason whatsoever that it couldn't have been a girl who wanted to bond with her dad over their shared LEGO love, and then swap out a baby brother with the Duplos. It was a missed opportunity from the filmmakers to make playing with LEGO the genderless activity it should be, and still is in many parts of the world.

This only sort of counts, since I can pick out the odd word here and there, but I really 'Eiszeit' by Eisbrecher.

It's not about being "uncouth." Anyone who has seen how real rape victims get raked over the coals for coming forward with what happened to them is probably going to think twice before putting themselves through that when they haven't been raped themselves. A lot of people who are raped don't tell anyone about it because of the way rape victims are treated by the people around them, the media, and the police or other authority figures who are supposed to be helping them.

I don't dispute that Lyanna was pregnant by Rhaegar. But she was isolated at the Tower of Joy and we don't know if Rhaegar ever told her what happened to her father and brother. Maybe he did tell her and she tried to leave and the Kingsguard were there to keep her from leaving with his prophesied baby.

Maybe she never knew and the promise she asked Ned to make was a promise not to tell Rickard and Brandon she went willingly with Rhaegar so they wouldn't blame her for the war.

Maybe her baby was stillborn and Jon really is Ned's, or maybe Ned swapped Lyanna's Targaryen-looking baby to Ashara (who joined Jon Con in the East and passed the child off as Aegon to use him as a figurehead) and took her Stark-looking child and named him Jon.

Maybe the truth is something else no one (including me) has thought of yet.

I'm meh about lemons, especially after the whole 'Lemongrab is a cannibal' thing. This has been a weird season, though. Cinnamonbun being with FP, the toxic zombie candies, now lemoneaters. IDK. Simon stuff would have been a nice change of pace.

um no she's acknowledging they happen while making a good argument as to why it's problematic to focus on them, which is what OP suggested.

I think a lot of folks might find the 1970s social attitudes of The Bad News Bears offputting. That's a shame, because it's a great comfort movie if it doesn't bother you.

Also, I can watch Topsy-Turvy any time, over and over.

Yeah... I live in a country where it's perfectly legal and not unheard of (not that it's common or anything, but it happens) and then I come to the internet a few years ago and everyone (well, fandom is kina dominated by people from the US I think) is all EEEEEW INCEST KILL IT WITH FIRE. I was pretty surprised tbh. ^^;
