Yeah, that part about getting to know people in social settings is how we do it here, usually. And a huge yes on being able to walk away back to friends when it doesn't work xD

I've had cavities I wouldn't have had if I flossed more. They formed between some of my back teeth. Flossing really helps get stuff out from between your teeth. I brush really thoroughly and still get stuff coming out on the floss or sometimes even still visible between my front teeth. I'd love to dismiss it as an American dental vanity thing, but I have fillings that prove otherwise.

In particular because that's a thing Bale is known for doing: massive (and health-wrecking) physical transformations for roles. It's like poking fun at Daniel Day-Lewis for staying in character all the time, or at Jean-Claude Van Damme for always finding an excuse to do splits.

Scrivener is not the kind of baseline expectation for a writer that Photoshop is for an artist. And sure, an artist can roll with GIMP and a secondhand tablet, but there's a reason a lot more of them invest any money they make back into the craft - a better program, a better tablet, better art classes - compared to how many writers save up to buy Scrivener. Writers don't compete in a field where their fellows are commonly rocking both natural talent and a $300 collection of tools.

I don't think art is harder than writing or anything, of course, but I've used GIMP and Photoshop, and that shit ain't no fancy note-taker.

Kinda, but kinda not. It is done in a group setting in the way that other people you know are around somewhere, but they will know the signs to keep away and leave two people alone if they seem to be hitting it of... Which I guess involves pretty much the same things that a date would in The US. You sit/stand talking to someone where flirting is involved and you get to know them better, or in the case where you already know them you might be getting closer to kissing/making out/sex and so on, doing this with the same person for most of the night would probably count as much as a date would.

Then sex might or might not happen at the end, if it does* and you spend the night you might ask him/her to do something later that day or another day if you don't know them well if you want it to continue and if you do know them well you are either a couple of you have to have an awkward "I just don't think we should be together, but the sex was fun" conversation.

*Or no sex but you still spend the night together.

You sound like a great communicator.

I get this, OP. I'm a queer woman who writes mostly m/m stuff because I feel weirdly self-conscious about having women involved, feeling more into women than men. I've been accused of "fetishizing" same-sex interactions though, which is kind of hilarious because I deliberately write what seems least hot to me.

The line is there, but it isn't as defined I think. For the most time I know which people I am interacting with because I want to have a relationship with them and which ones I am because I want to be their friend.

1. Yes, quite often. Also with your SO.
2. Then you don't sleep with them... It isn't like sex is the one and only start of a relationship (even if it is a common one). We have done this from a really young age and you don't have sex when you are 10, so the social rules and signals are ingrained in us so sex does not need to happen for you to be in a relationship. I know of plenty relationships that didn't start with sex, including mine.

William likes to play with his food--he'll fish individual pieces of kibble out of his dish with his paw and bat them around before he eats them.

I haven't the heart to be annoyed, it's so cute. Stepping in kitty puke, otoh...

Haha, yeah Americans aren't much for kissing in public. The scene you described does happen here, but that's interesting that it's the norm there. Cool to learn.

It is nice having the option of just going "Oh sorry, I just have to go to my friend and ask her about this thing, talk to you later!" and being able to never ever having to talk to that person again!

Do you guys also do the trying to pair people during whichever social gatherings? Instead of setting people up for blind dates we just usually put two people we think will like each other in a setting that they will have to interact. Usually with the help of a third party until that one leaves.

I realise now that what we do in Norway might seem chaotic and without reason, but it is filled with norms and rules and we all know them so it is basically the same as dates, just without the name and with slightly more people you know nearby

Re: Spelling "women" as "womxn."

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
Any time I see someone use a made-up gender neutral term I experience a profound urge to start referring to lady-type persons (of which I am one) as "chicks" or "broads" out of sheer contrary irritation.
