If you are do freaked out but naked bodies, don't watch the show. Right now most of the characters are completely naked and wear no clothes because clothes are evil.

Why do you think it's gross though? A reaction as strong as yours probably has a reason behind it

I think those outfits are ugly. But I can't say I've ever really found the human body disgusting.

Uh, wouldn't most people agree that scantily clad video game characters (especially female) is objectification or whatnot?

...wow. o.O

I totally understand this, OP. That would just be really distracting all the time. And this particular costume design doesn't say to me, "We're embracing our bodies!", it says "Hey neckbeards, lookit the tits!".

i agree for the most part. anime isn't targeted to an audience that makes me think they do such things for any kind of ~female sexuality/body empowerment~ reasons at all. it's just a way to show skin and bait perverts, in turn making them $$$. or for males it's fantasy fulfillment (or humor). maybe on the right kind of show with the right kind of message but ehh. in general i hate fan service stuff and try to avoid it like the plague.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
I sort of agree? Like if there's a guy or gal with superpowers that allow them to have a practically invincible body where it doesn't matter what they expose, then I don't care if they show their abs, cleavage, butt, etc.

But for the average human being walking around in a fighting suit that's showing a lot of their legs, torso, cleavage, or other really exposed body part? That shit annoys me to no end. All I can think about is how easily it would be for a criminal to plant a knife right into their ribcage or what ever body part their exposing. There really is no point to them having this impractical costume other than for fanservice.

It would also be nice to have more average human being super heroines resemble real women athletes who keep their body in top shape. A lot of them have an athletic, tone build with very little body fat, meaning not a lot of boobage going on.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Icagree, but what really fucking pushes my buttons is boob armor. Just fuck that shit.

What about live action?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, you're not going to see any real people wearing clothes like that, because they wouldn't stay on, but how do you feel about, say, the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue? Is it the nudity that's the issue, or nudity+anime/game art?

[personal profile] the_missing_y 2014-03-05 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Could you elaborate? Gross seems to have stopped meaning "Universally Disgusting" (E.g. That artist guy who ate a dead human baby) and now seems to be the catch all term for "Anything I find Distasteful" (E.g. Moffat).

Don't mean to be a prick, but could you clarify which you mean, and if the former, could you take a stab at a more comprehensive explaination? You're by no means obligated to do so, but I am very curious, and would be very grateful if you'd indulge me.

OP

At first I dropped the show because of the fanservice, but then I picked it up again because all my friends told me to do so. And the result? I love it! If you can see it fanservice aside, it has an AWESOME plot and I recommend it to all of my friends.

I like sexy, I don't mind revealing clothing, but when it is fucking everywhere, and every damn character it's really annoying. It just seems I don't know somehow, really uncreative and like they were trying way too hard at the same time. I'm not sure if that even makes sense.

Yes, thank god I'm not the only one!

I'm sick of the reaction that "You're a prude if you don't like fanservice."

Well, tough shit. Most of the time, it's impractical, it adds nothing to the plot and characters, and it's just really blatantly obvious pandering to teh fans.

And it just feels skeevy to me, most of the time. (Even male fanservice.) Female fanservice has an extra layer of "Do not want" for me, even though I'm bi, because it's clear it's NOT for me.

Not liking ridiculous costumes isn't prudish.

I'm not put off watching Kill la Kill because of the outfits but man they look fucking bizarre, to the extent where I don't understand how they're supposed to be sexy because I find them so damn ridiculous.

I don't like it either. But for me it's less of a "OH GOD GET THE TITS AWAY FROM ME" reaction and more my inability to comprehend the design. I just look at this stuff and think "Why? Why are they wearing that? What could possibly possess this character to put this sad imitation of clothing on their body and parade around this way? What's the point?" (And of course, the answer is usually 'the creator did it so people can ogle boobs/breasts/etc.', which is sad and annoying.)

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I feel you. "Equal" fanservice doesn't really work when both make you uncomfortable. :/

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
"It squicks me out" and "it's just gross" do make you sound more 12 than 27, OP. Sorry.

[personal profile] ninthlife 2014-03-05 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
I don't really find it gross but I do find it ugly. For me the style and ridiculous anatomy are very unappealing. Plus the outfits are illogical. If I'm going to spend time watching something, it has to at least be visually appealing to me. If I think it's totally fug, I'm not going to bother.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Some fanservice bugs me and some doesn't. I think it has to do with whether or not I feel the character who is being sexualized would be okay with it.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Slut shaming" has gone too far to the extent people are not understanding that a costume designed by man specifically made for men to salivate over is in no way empowering and is entirely objectification. This turns into an especially ridiculous argument when we're talking about fictional characters where how they look is completely designed for a specific purpose.

I can tolerate fanservice but Kill la Kill is a bit ridiculous looking, I have yet to give it a watch.
