the trolls were completely awful in general and the movie would've been better off overall without them and their god-awful song.

I agree.

The movie could have done without that stupid musical number, imho. It's almost a 'Big Lipped Alligator Moment', ughhhh.

I don't think it's quite a 'Big Lipped Alligator Moment' - if I read that trope right, a true BLAM would have absolutely no impact on the rest of the movie. The scene with the trolls did serve to set up the red-herring of Kristoff as a possible "True Love" for Anna that she turns to after Hans revealed himself, getting her out on the frozen fjord at the same time Elsa is trying to escape Hans.

The song may have been lackluster, but the whole scene of the trolls trying to set Kristoff and Anna up had further relevance to the plot.

agreed.

I wouldn't have minded trolls, per se - they are big in Scandinavian folklore, after all. but they were just portrayed so awkwardly. They were pretty forgettable, luckily, but I would've rather seen them a bit more menacing or at least less horribly goofy.

the bestiality joke in their song was kinda funny though

Yes. I get it was supposed to be about accepting someone you love for their flaws and to be a contrast to Love is an Open Door but I don't care. I hate the Trolls and their song.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-09 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I personally found the fact that the trolls were completely putting down Anna's feelings and desires and didn't care that she was engaged because of ~omg troo loev~. (As if her NOT wanting to marry the asshole who chided and basically called her an idiot earlier in the film for wanting to marry someone else she just met made her a "fixer upper" augh I just hate the entire thing).

I hated that very much, yes. There's also a stereotype in there where a guy can be full of flaws but the girl has to be flawless that they were unknowingly supporting that made me uncomfortable.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-10 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought it was more of family trying to set Kristioff up? At least he seemed to be embarrassed by all that, like someone, whos family'd gush about 'how awesome our child is' and 'you'd be a cute pair'.

O disliked more the moment where he told her to get her feet off his snowsledge. The next thing they'd show would be a that time version of soccer and he'd be a fan. Very stereotypical.

And I didn't like how she went from one (evil) bf to another bf straight away. Thought they seem to have fun together.

They were trying to set him up. It was just multiple things at once. I doubt Disney was aware of all the implications of that scene, so I mostly just let it slide because it's not completely obvious. It just still makes me really uncomfortable.

I don't remember that part at all. Could you please explain?

Eh, I have an issue with the whole plot so I'm right there with you.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-10 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy that part. I think I just thought it was boring.)

Ahaa! Here it is. At the very few moments. Kristoff says "it's a fresh lacquir".

Ha, thanks.

As if her NOT wanting to marry the asshole who chided and basically called her an idiot earlier in the film for wanting to marry someone else

you mean like elsa did?

Did Elsa actually call her an idiot for it, or did she just say it's too quick and she refused to approve it?

Personally I can give Elsa a bit of leeway on it because, as disconnected as they may have been, she and Anna are sisters, while Kristoff is a total stranger. Family can get away with being a bit more critical than an outsider can, plus Elsa, at that point, is Anna's legal guardian.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-10 07:31 am (UTC)(link)
Kristoff didn't call her an idiot either, he just thought it was wrong she was marrying someone she didn't know anything about.

Agreed.

I like the rest of the movie but the troll song could have been left out for the better.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-09 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I just thought they were pointless. And I hated their song.

Echoing sentiments that the movie would've been better without the trolls and their song.

Well... actually their first appearance where they were mostly serious I didn't mind.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-09 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
yup. pity because they weren't bad at all in the beginning. a bit goofy looking, but eh, it's disney... gotta let that go to some degree. but the song? the song just tipped them over into "ridiculous/annoying". we already had olaf for that.

The problem is, the scene had a purpose in the plot. It set up a red-herring of Anna trying to find Kristoff after Hans left her, thus getting her out on the fjord when Hans is chasing Elsa across it.

But maybe the set-up could have been done better, in a less goofy "We-don't-give-a-shit-about-the-girl's-feelings-she's-gonna-marry-our-boy-or-else!" sort-of way.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-13 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
The message/lyrics of the song were also relevant to Anna and Elsa's relationship.

...I actually like the song. It's just so catchy. The timing was terrible though, they could hardly have put it in a less appropriate place in the story. I think it would've been better-received if not for that.
