How so? Re:first point.

i've never heard complaints about the wesley family being pointless, obnoxious time suckers whose only purpose is to make the story longer because it has no actual substance

...Well, I have heard complaints about them being pointless.

Not for a while, though, but it used to be A Thing. Especially when it came to shipping Hermione with anyone-but-Ron(-mostly Harry but not always).

Are there such complaints about the trolls? Because the trolls have a better usefulness/appearance time ratio to me than the Wesley, now that I think of it.

The troll king healed young Anna.

I mean, I haven't seen the film so idk maybe it's a fucking masterpeice. And I don't want to be the person who hates on adults enjoying things 'meant' for kids but JESUS H CHRIST.

What.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-15 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
She looks like she has a lazy eye, bottom right.

Well... I don't think that the trolls act like a famoly. They don't have a house, other children and last not but the least they're not human.

Are you high?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-15 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
The Weasleys' big plot-stopping musical number must have been really terrible, then, because I've completely blocked it from my mind.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-15 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
The Weasley's are douchebags who called a woman a fixer-upper because she didn't have the "good taste" to be with the guy they thought she should be with and instead choose (albeit revealed to be poorly) her own?

[personal profile] truxillogical 2014-03-15 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I also missed the part where they suggested getting a woman's fiance out of the way to pair her up with the guy they liked better (I mean, FANDOM does that...)

The most I can think is how Mrs. Weasley bought into the Daily Prophet column about Hermione and how initially she wasn't thrilled with Fleur (who, admittedly, was also being a bit of a snot. But they worked that out).

I thought the dude was the fixer-upper? Granted I try to block all memory of that song out of my head, so I could be wrong...

But why did the trolls adopt Kristoff? WHYYYYYY
Did the ice cutters just never notice this orphaned kid running around with them? I know Disney looooves them some orphans but I just didn't get that one. He could've been friends with the trolls without being their adopted son, I dunno.

Other than that, I'm not sure I've seen these Weasley complaints.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-16 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
They probably didn't care. They had their own skins to worry about and their own kids to feed. An orphan running around after them was just in the way.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-15 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Would that make Ron or Harry Kristoff?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-15 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I was going to say Ron was obviously Kristoff since he's their son, but then I realized the Weasley's kind of adopted Harry (much in the same way the trolls kidnapped "adopted" Kristoff) so I guess it's anybody's guess.

I don't understand the argument against the Weasleys

(Anonymous) 2014-03-15 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
The trolls could have been completely removed from the story and the story would not have changed at all

The Weasleys could not removed without it affecting the plot significantly. They're the first example of a true (not assholish and abusive) 'family' he ever encounters/becomes a part of, which is fucking crucial in Harry's character development

Re: I don't understand the argument against the Weasleys

(Anonymous) 2014-03-15 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I hate the trolls, but the troll king was the one who erased Anna's memory. A plot point I feel was idiotic, but without it the whole first act, and possibly the dynamic of the sisters, would change (I personally wouldn't mind that, but...).

So the fact that one goofy family unit sounds a bit like another, occasionally goofy, family unit means you want to equate a pair of caring but misguided parents who used bad ideas of how to deal with their daughter's problems with totally good intentions with a married couple who quite deliberately abused their nephew, likely with totally bad intentions.

...Right.

I cannot see any good intentions in how the Dursleys treated Harry.
