originally they were unconfirmed if they were x-gene or not. Magneto was retconned in as their fahter.

So it works.

I am really curious about Nat and Fury's relationship, at this point. She was far more upset about him than I was anticipating her being, and they really played it up. I feel like I missed whatever they were getting at.

IA, I feel like there's something in her origin story that we haven't heard yet that would have her scenes with him in Winter Soldier make so much more sense. We must have missed a lot between those two, and they probably have a much deeper connection then we imagined. I do hope we get a Black Widow Origins story one day, because I'd love to see how Fury factors into that.

I loved that there wasn't a bunch of shitty in-fighting among the protagonists.

Oh man, me too. There was enough trust issues going around with the main storyline, we didn't need fighting among the protagonists. I didn't mind the cast butting heads in Avengers, but I'm pleased that we're through with that now and everyone knows they need one another and even want to be there for one another; they've learned from their mistakes and realize what needs to happen.

Now I want more team-up flicks! If only Thor: TDW had been this good, tbh.

I haven't tried since I was fourteen when I couldn't even find my own clitoris. It did not work.

There are still some groups of Christians who say they meet those requirements, OP. Whether they do or not, well, that's why Jesus told the disciples to judge others by their fruits (i.e., by what they do).

I hear you on the so-called Christians who never crack the pages of their Bible, though; I was on a thread on r/Christianity today, and half of the posters were spending their time trying to debate with a Jewish poster and prove to him why/how Jesus was a rabbi, and the Jewish poster saying that was a dealbreaker for him b/c "Jesus was a bad rabbi."

I don't have a reddit account, and the thread was months old, but I just wanted to scream Matt 23:8! Repeatedly. As I read down through every single response that literally got nowhere, because they never paid attention to what Jesus said, and did, ever. So. Yeah.

As for finding a group that doesn't have issues, that can really be the trick sometimes. (Sorting the wheat from the chaff.) Though every group will have its issues. Just pray that God will place you where He can best use you. Even if you end up in a group that doesn't even remotely believe the same way you do. (I may or may not be in that situation right now.) Give your life to God, to use as He sees fit, and trust that you will the find the place where your life can preach best.

At this point Marvel always does that. IT's expected now, they couldn't NOT

Well later on the article is talking about Ted Bundy, and this crops up "After his first escape, the male identification was with Bundy as an outlaw rebel-hero. But subsequently, Bundy did the supremely unmanly thing of getting caught; moreover, at the last moment he confessed to his crimes and manifested fear of death. No longer qualifying as hero, Bundy was now cast into the alternate role of scapegoats"

Then there's a part about Jack the Ripper where it says this, "Patriarchal culture has enshrined "Jack the Ripper" as a mythic hero; he commonly appears as an immortal figure in literature, film, television, jokes, and other cultural products. The function of such mythiciza-tion is twofold: to terrorize women and to empower and inspire men."

And the last sentence of the article says "Vast numbers of women are now suffering and dying from various forms of hate crime worldwide, including neglect, infanticide, genital mutilation, battering, rape, and murder. What men might call "peacetime," researcher Lori Heise (1989) truthfully names a "global war on women."

It all just seems a little off, and the article for the most part didn't start out with these kinds of statements either. I mean, yeah, some of these things have merit, like the last sentence about what's happening to women all over the world, but just the way the author says it seems to me like scare tactics or something.

A solid idea, but I think people might respond more to this if we kept it more flexible, having a checklist of members might put some people off. People probably won't want to give that kind of commitment. But anyway this is really more of a "Feeling things out" thread, I'm going to be trying to build an actual plan / work out guidelines / etc for this stuff tomorrow.

I'm wondering if some bucky scenes were cut

A lot of the time we see a whole lotta extra content for some charaters on the blu-rays

...the problem with your thesis being that Jesus and the disciples, and the apostles of the early Church, directly used what you refer to as "the Old Testament" as authoritative. If you ever actually read the book (albeit with a solid foundation in the New Testament to begin with), you would see endless parallels and references in what the New Testament authors teach, lifted directly from the only scripture they had available at the time.

Jesus even read from the scroll of Isaiah! Dude! What more do you want!

Yeah, I dunno why it popped into my head but it did. I guess from the way your comments usually are nice and short and insightful among a sea of arguments and tl;dr?

Why do you have a problem specifically with giving away digital copies? I could see feeling wary about an illegal digital copy, but...well, there are hard copies of books that have been obtained illegally, as well.

Do you think that people shouldn't give away books at all? In other words, is it wrong for me to buy a hard copy of a book, and then give it away, for free, to someone else when I'm done with it? Does that count as piracy?

Or is it the fact that digital copies can be, well...copied that bothers you?

(Anonymous) 2014-04-06 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Out of the people who've seen it, I think there's like a 90% "oh god it's the best thing ever" rate

Not even close. Around 7 million people watched the first 3 episodes live in the US and that number went steadily down as the show progressed, plateauing at around 3 million.

Oh no, I'm talking about her death being more about Will, Jack and Science Bros' pain than Bev herself. And Bryan Fuller saying that she was meant to die in season one and the only reason she didn't was because they audience didn't know her enough then so they needed to develop her more before killing her.

I don't think he saved anything btw, he ate her liver and put the rest on display.

I skimmed the article (which, btw, is only available if your institution has a subscription either to sagepub or jstor). To be honest, maybe I've become radicalized, but I'm not really seeing what you find so incendiary about it. Yes, it's from a feminist point of view. Yes, the author uses the word patriarchy. But... there are definitely circumstances where it's legitimate to use the term; it is a valid academic term for describing a legitimate phenomenon. To me, talking about sexualized violence against women and the way that society has tended to respond is one of those times. She is making a point that it is disingenuous to avoid talking about women and the unbalanced power structures of gender in society when talking about sexual violence against women-- it is disingenuous to generalize Ted Bundy and his victims as genderless, when in fact their gender is critical to understanding and talking about his violence. To me, that seems pretty evident. I'm not sure how that's so extreme, or what would make you so upset about the thought that your teacher wants to discuss such things. I mean, also, even if you disagree with the article, it clearly has spurred you to think and made you want to discuss it-- that's reason enough for a teacher to assign something, isn't it?
