F!S Anon Meme (the ??th)

Secrets, rants, opinions, anything you want to say about your fandom or a fandom or fandom in general, do it here! Anonymously, of course. Get it all off your chest.

Some ground rules:
1. Going anon is encouraged but not absolutely required (for those who struggle with recaptchas and stuff).
2. No autoplaying/autolooping embeds, or embeds that cover/stretch the screen.
3. No dropping personal info or IRL contact info, etc.

That's about it, though!

(Today's post is below.)

I've just realized that how much I like a male character is directly proportional to how much I want to see him hurt/abused (and then taken care of and recovering, it's basically a hurt/comfort thing that I really love), and how much I like a female character is directly proportional to how much I want to see them being amazing strong wonderful kickass goddesses (but never hurt/abused, it just makes me upset).

Sometimes (although not always, a lot of my OTPs are m/m or f/f) with the aforementioned female characters comforting the aforementioned male characters.

I feel kind of skeevy about that first part.

I do the same. But it's not about looks, it's about story and personality and character. So it's not really a "want to see" like a visual thing, but a narrative thing? Idk how to explain it. But it's mostly only with male characters. I generally do not want that with ladies, I want them being badass and dominant and saving people.

I've never really thought about the divide and how that might be weird until I read your post.

Oh, me too. I'm into hurting male characters. Except without the comfort afterwards, so it's twice as skeevy. I was still a teenager when I saw The Empire Strikes Back, and the Han torture scene. Since then it's a theme in what I like. It's the punchbag/chew toy male character of any ensemble that I'm drawn to.

With women, I want them super-capable, witty and perhaps Amazonian in build, which is just as embarrassing.

I think it's because it's pure fantasy? The same way that a lot of men are drawn to manic pixie girls and big muscled men in their narratives. I've stopped feeling so bad about it.

OP - yeah, good point about it being fantasy. In a lot of media, the male characters are heroic and strong, and the female ones are the... well, damsels. So it's a nice inversion to see male characters being victimized (and other male characters, given those aforementioned m/m ships being nurturing - the 'nurturer/healer' role is traditionally feminine as well) and the female characters being amazing heroic badasses.

(Also, I've always preferred Luke and want him to get All The Hugs after the encounter with Vader. Heh.)

I actually like my favorites of both sexes to sufferrrrr (with a happy ending, dammit, I'm into hurt/COMFORT). But I kind of get you. I'll just be over here with these gifs of Jesse Pinkman crying...
