1. Ah, man, now I want to see that. Never heard of it before. But I remember when I first started listening to later Beatles in college, and it was amazing.

4. I never get tired of the "x fandom saved my life" comments. Star Trek helped me through my parents' divorce. Sailor Moon and DBS helped me find a group of amazing friends who've stuck with me long after we've outgrown the shows. GBS helped me through a horrible time last spring. That's what fandoms are for. They're kind of like religion, but less daunting, and only mean fans yell at you and say you're going to hell if you're not into their fandoms. (Well, actually, the same is true for Christianity, but anyway...)


11. Screw. You.

People like you. People like you are why I can't stomache anime or the anime community at all anymore. This friggen concept that, "oh, it's got to be real anime! It's not from Japan, it must suck!"
You know what Avatar is? Avatar is an attempt to let American artists try their hand at making a continuity-heavy show with characters that grow and develop, and, while child-accessible, isn't exclusively for children. AND AMERICA NEEDS THAT!
I've got friends and colleagues who've been pitching stories--incredibly sotries with great art--for series, only to be denied. Not because they're not good enough, and not because the companies being pitched to weren't taking any new stories, but because (and I kid you not, this is basically what the rejection letters have said), they were too good. It was too weird to see a mix of humor and seriousness and plot-heavy story in a cartoon.

Avatar is an attempt to change that. It doesn't have to be fricken "real anime." It's a good story. Hell, I can think of a lot of "real anime" that sucks so hardcore. And people would eat it the hell up because it was anime. It was from the magical, wonderful land of Japan, so clearly ='ed awesome.

I am so sick of that fricken elitist attitude.



15. Screw you too, but to a lesser extent, and only because I worked myself up into a good fervor over that last one. More like, "eh, I see where you're coming from, but I don't agree at all."
I will say that I think Nine loved Rose more than Ten. Nine was always an intense, focused, dire sort of man. Ten was a hyperactive bouncy fellow with the attentionspan of a three-year-old. He still loved Rose. He loved her very much, and I think he would've allowed her to stay with him as long as she could have.
The better arguement than the "Doomsday" scene, to me, would be the "Girl in the Fireplace" bit. But even then, I don't think his actions negate his love for Rose. They just show that a)The (Tenth) Doctor is a very impulsive fellow and b) he could be distracted by shiny things. Most men--strike that, most people, even in a relationship--are.

In the case of "Doomsday" I think it's more that the Doctor loves Rose, but he has perspective. He's 900 years old. He's not going to have that tragic, Romeo-and-Juliet, stupid-teenager type of love where he kills himself (or condems himself to hell) for her sake. He's lost his children (and presumably at least one person he loved well enough to have children with), Companions, lovers, and his entire planet. I think the Doctor has enough perspective to know that know matter how much it hurts to lose someone, it won't kill him.

He loves Rose. He loves her enough to spend the rest of her life with her. But he's lived a long time, is the kind of guy who loves very deeply, and knows that life goes on. And on.

I always double take at those "I don't like teh ghey so I won't fit in" secrets because to me, the PW fandom is one of the most open ones I've been in (or at least stalked XD). Maybe I stray toward the crack a bit, but everyone seems to ship everyone with everyone at the same time. :| Dunno where they get that Phoenix/Edgeworth is the be all end all of pairings in the series.

The point is, I think sometimes multiple pairings make sense for the same character. XD;;

Um, do you know Baum used to write stage plays based on his works? He took the story for the Wizard of Oz, practically tossed it out the window, and then added a dancing cow. So I think ruby slippers and a green witch aren't anywhere near as bad as all that. (srsly, dancing cow? wtf?)

I think the point is that it kept being called by everyone as this anime on Nick. It's not anime. It doesn't look anything like anime. It's not the country of origin. It's that it isn't the style that defines anime. It's just a regular cartoon that happens to take place in a decidedly anime-ish location.

25. Me too. Although I get more irritated by the number of Wicked fans I run into IRL who cannot comprehend that Gregory Maguire's Oz canon is separate from Baum's Oz canon. The Wicked Witch of the West's name is only Elphaba in Wicked, people. Hearing her called that in the context of Baum's book or, hell, the movie, is not cool. =(

I'm not sure what you mean by Whedonesque quotes, unless you mean, a sort of not quite natural snap -- like people don't talk like this, all witty and whatnot, and uh, I guess that's there? But it's also a cartoon about people who bend the elements so I'm willing to suspect my disbelief a little.

Anime faces don't bug me, though I didn't find these to be stereotypically anime -- and yet, hahaha, I haven't watched enough old anime to know.
