"i have ideas for the way I want this to go and I end up wanting to do all the work."
you may already know this, but that's the whole point of group projects - to help people like you learn how to work better with others

As Diet_poison said, though, it isn't fair to have one person's grade riding on another person's. Its my grade, so I want to do the work necessary to get a good grade. Its not really the same as a real world situation. I'm just fine on group assignments at work. But school is different.

Naaah. I agree with the poster above you.

In elementary and middle school, I liked them. In high school, I would've agreed about loathing group projects. But by college, I'd gotten the hang of managing adult-type people, making them do their best, and getting something better at the end than anything that I could've done on my own in the same amount of time.

(And FYI, I was usually at the top of my classes, which was why I usually got assigned the people who were failing whatever class we were in. One of my college professors even admitted to me that it was a deliberate choice and outlined the why of it.)

But it's a skill that you've got to cultivate, not magic that just happens.

It teaches people like philstar how to work with others, yes. But it teaches people who fail to contribute that they can get away with letting others do their work for them.

Just like in the real world.

You are never out of high school.

...unfortunately, you're right. :-/

I spoke below about my own experience in the working world, but when I really think about it, I've probably been pretty fortunate. There's a fuckton of people who skate by and get others to pick up the tab for them.
