Wait, people like this movie? I just saw it a few days ago (with no expectations and no idea what it was about) and thought it was incredibly bland. I'm glad Disney finally got wise to the love story part, but it really seemed to me like the only good song was "Let It Go" and the movie overall would have been 1000% better if it had actually about the character who had the more important character arc: Elsa. I'm not saying there wasn't a good idea in Anna's story, but I found the execution to be amazingly boring. It felt like a movie I'd watched before, without even having seen the trailer, and I called the "twist" from a parsec away. I'd figured fandom would have put it among the ranks of "man, they haven't made a good one since Pocahontas, CGI is ruining everything, they should really stop cribbing stuff from Wicked" recent Disney.

Huh, I guess not. Looking at the other comments: did you guys like the idea of it primarily, or do you actually think it's a good story? Personally, I knew I was supposed to be feeling something during the climax, but was ultimately unable to overcome my disappointment with the rest of the movie. Like I said, I like the idea of it in theory and it was a painfully long-overdue step forward for Disney, but I'm also probably never going to watch it again.

You really didn't know the movie is insanely popular? Is this your first day on the internet?

You sound like one of those pseudo-intellectual elitist assholes.

It's made a ton of money everywhere. The most recent example is in Japan. The gross there is around eight million or so. Normally box office hits only make one or two million, or stay in the high hundred thousands, even if it's a staple franchise like Doraemon. That's been released almost as long as Frozen, but the numbers say it's made about 500,000. For extra comparison, the second movie on the rankings (Winter Soldier) has hit about 1.9 million.

And if you need anecdotal evidence that it's popular, the people at the table behind me just immediately exclaimed "oh, you haven't watched Frozen yet, have you?" and said they had it on their phone so they could watch right now.

SA

*gross per weekend. I checked the gross to date in Japan for Doraemon and Frozen and Doraemon stands at 33 million. Frozen is 100 million.

The little girls behind me on the theater were enthralled, and cheered when they realized the 'true love' that the movie was exemplifying was familial love.

It's a good story; I think that's what people like about it, specially its target audience. I can see the flaws in the storytelling, but I appreciate what it did do right.

Please, tell me about this rock you live under. It sounds interesting.

No, I felt pretty much exactly the same way about it as you did. There was an ok movie in there somewhere, but it wasn't on the screen.

It was mediocre, and (for me) a little bit of subversion isn't enough to make up for an entire movie of meh.

1. Your feelings on blandness are quite obviously not representative of everyone
2. Claiming something is bland simply because you didn't like it is silly
3. You sound ridiculously pretentious
4. It's the highest grossing animated film of all time
5. It's the 6th highest grossing film of all time
6. It won 2 acadamy awards
7. It's the highest grossing disney release
8. It's broken records worldwide how do you not know about it
9. Maybe you're the boring one here.

Lordy, anon, I'm not sure why everyone's jumping all over you. You make some good points, and I agree.

Yes. I didn't, but lots of ppl did...

Yes, it was enormously popular. I found it a bland movie with a message that I found objectionable - and no, it's not the one about family/sisterly love which everyone on this post seems to think it is, but hey, they are untitled to their (mistaken) opinions!

Having said that, it is the most successful animated movie ever made and has earned over $2b at the box office. And it's still going strong overseas...

This is yet another proof that popularity is not synonym of quality: but hey, the Twilight books are among the most successful books ever printed, I am told!
