Tbh I'd love for all these shows to be cancelled. Simultaneously. The shitstorm would be glorious.

Maybe this makes me an asshole, though I'm not sure why. Everything has to end sooner or later. I can understand the lack of closure being frustrating, though; maybe it would be cooler if all the long-runners with dropping ratings got a few episodes to wrap things up and then ended.

I mean, in the sense that it's about actual straight up magic and Rasputin being an undead wizard, for sure. But it truly doesn't focus on the actual historical context of the revolution and Soviet Russia, at least to my recollection, so I'm not sure how much you can say it's totally distorting history, beyond just ignoring it...

(Anonymous) 2014-05-01 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
Don't be silly. Old people don't have friends.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-01 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
Welp, this did it.

I'm done.

I'm done being concerned about every little thing. I'm done stressing about the fact that I might be insulting someone who died decades before I was born. I'm done trying not to cause offense.

I get shit every day just for being who I was born as, and on top of that, I have to worry about someone who hasn't ever experienced what I have, but who might get upset because I didn't consider the history of their fucking grandmother.

No. Fuck you. There are actual problems in the actual world right now, and you're all up in arms because somebody made a movie about something that happened before you were born. I don't give two shits about that. I give two shits about people who are actually suffering right now.

This, kind of. I've heard they are not doing very well.

Re: Gotta be honest...

I would assume they were friends with White Russians, or members of a minority group or the middle class, who were forced to flee the country. That's the assumption I've been operating on anyway.

Which is... the course of an event like the Russian Revolution is incredibly complex and I think it is a danger for us in the West that we frequently only get one side of a lot of stories like this and make our judgments based on that.

Can they be like daemons?

(Anonymous) 2014-05-01 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
You like a thing better than another thing? That's cool. I like things too. However, there is something extremely unsettling about the way that elephant is drawn.

ooh thanks. That is my first story that I'm on right now. I find sibling relationships really interesting. At one point I meant to use it to explore the subject of sibling abuse. Since then the abuser character has changed quite a bit , and has actually become someone trying to protect his family members. Though there is still some exploration of sibling abuse in the story.

But yeah sibling and family relationships are really interesting to me and I like to write about them and use them.

and on that last one I do agree. I feel the same hehehe....I think I put too much of my turn-ons in Shiro....or I gave him turn-ons I didn't realize I had. ..and now I probably sound creepy sorry.

I kind of agree with the sentiment, but umm I think you are overreacting. OP didn't say they were offended by the film or that they demanded people stop making things like this, they just said it disturbed them and seemed like an incredibly strange idea (which I also kind of agree with). Nobody says you have to worry about anything you don't wish to worry about, but some ideas just sound so out-of-the-left-field that one can't help but go all wtf about them.

Re: Tea!

(Anonymous) 2014-05-01 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
I love tea! Of all kinds. I'll drink tea from teabags when I'm on the go or at work, especially in the winter. I'm terribly fond of the Trader Joe's seasonal vanilla & cinnamon black tea. When I'm at home, I almost always brew a pot of loose tea, though. I have a number of favorites-- I have a plain black ceylon that tastes very warm/chocolatey, plus I love rooibos (I have vanilla, caramel, and peach) for evenings. I also love Adagio Tea's Aquarius mix, and I have a few others that I also adore. Pretty much any tea, to be perfectly honest...

I stopped watching Psych a few seasons ago, but I just have an important question: did everyone ever find out he was faking his powers?

Yeeeeeeessssss. All of this. People ask me why I read and re-read Holmes stories over and over again if I already know the whole plot by heart, and I'm like, you don't get it. Watson's narration. It is the most wonderful thing in existence. It's not just what happened told in the first person. It's Watson sitting down and remembering this stuff and thinking about how he sees Holmes and deciding to write the story and Holmes this way and IT IS SO AWESOME.

I...don't understand why you couldn't just say "thanks for all your hard work, but my program can't read this. Is there another format you could send it in?"

(Anonymous) 2014-05-01 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
Don't care, I still like it (and I was well aware of the actual story before it was made.) Beautiful animation, gorgeous music, amusingly macabre villain with an adorable minion, and I think the movie made it very obvious that the revolution was a horrible time even if they didn't go into the actual politics.

Anastasia's whole family died, for crying out loud--the centerpiece song of the film drove home her loss beautifully and painfully. And though it wasn't Disney, it was certainly no worse than Pocahantas or Mulan (or The Little Mermaid, if you want to step outside actual historical figures) for tacking on a cheesy happy ending.

Had someone beta my fic, leave a review for it, then rip off the whole premise in her own, even ripping exact lines.
Then when she was called on it, she claimed she'd never read mine. Even though her review was under her name.
Now she goes around telling people I "chased her out of the fandom" when she'd been publicly trashing it for upwards of a year, and obsessively hatereads my blog. This all happened years ago, too, and she's still at it.

Uhhh...can you like, give some examples of how JKR is unable to write good characters/relationships? I've always thought that she and her narrative are VERY aware -- far more aware than her readers, especially in book 5, which was IMO the most mature book. The emotional maturity of the series started sliding a bit in books 6 and 7 -- of how flawed the characters who are truly flawed are. Like, you know, Dumbledore, Sirius, Snape, Lupin, etc. And on the side of the students, the fact that they are teenagers who literally don't have fully-formed brains and are therefore totally and understandably inadequate human beings at the moment, which comes across quite well too. I've never seen either narrative blindness or "pathological inability to write good people."

So...examples, please? Sorry, but I can't resist letting a totally detached blanket assertion like this go without evidence, because now my curiosity about what YOU saw to give you this opinion has been all piqued. ;)
