So much agreed. Vomit-inducing and cheap is the perfect way to phrase it. Why actually try to tease some sincerity out of relationships by exploring them when you can just slather some one-size-fits-all fluffy romance all over everything? *eyeroll*

What really gets me the most is when the people writing or reading the fluffy romance don't even seem to realize that it is fluffy romance, and thinks that it is in fact The Way The Show/Movie/Book Is Supposed To Be.

The Pokémon fandom awful for running things into the ground. Like, yeah, I get it Espurr's seen some shit, Hoenn's filled with water and trumpets, and Professor Sycamore's the Frenchiest French to ever French. It's time to stop.

There are so, so many Mary Sues. It's 99.99% of all het fic, and that's being generous, because I've never actually seen that 0.01% I just assume it must exist somewhere. The canon-character-only fans seem to avoid the Sue/Stu-writing fans, though, and the twain shall never meet, so there's not much drama.

There's quite a lot of het fic that doesn't involve OCs or Mary Sues. But yeah, there's still a lot of fic with them. I just don't get it. I mean I get it, but publishing it for other people to read is a bit odd to me.

I keep my shameful, shameful Mary Sue adventures in my head. Where they should be kept.

Anything involving the word "domestic." I don't caaaaaare about your headcanon for who in your OTP makes dinner on what nights or who lets whom shower first.

YES. I will backbutton the shit out of anything "domestic" -- not because I'm opposed to domestic-ness (I actually really like domestic-y scenes in canon...because they usually last about two minutes), but because fics do them in such smug vomity ways.

Whenever people ask the cast/crew/writers about shipping stuff or general fandom-y things. I don't want the cast to know what weird ships I have.

Oh this is the worst! Or when people will tweet at the actors about fandom and ships, no please don't do that.

Then again, in my one fandom the actors will joke around with each other but it still gets uncomfortable when the crazy fans push.

This, so fucking much. Most of them are just completely fucking terrible. They're not cute, so stop being lazy and type out the damn names of the characters.

Gender/racebending casting. Because 99% of the time, the casting is all about looks and not about whether or not that actor fits that role acting-wise. And it's frustrating to read people's cast and go, "Idris Elba AGAIN? He would be horrible in that role. No where in his filmography says that he would be any good in that sort of billing."

I am a firm believer that actors can't be switched out like tires and you can get the same result, or in this case performance from them. Each actor has spent years, if not decades working on their craft as to make their performances uniquely their own. Like you wouldn't hire Tom Cruise to play a Paul Giamatti role even though they are both white. You can't switch one actor for another. But some how for gender/racebender casters, it's perfectly fine to shove any non-white actor in any role.

Crossover fanfics that are only crossovers because an OC is magically trapped inside and bonded to a costume of somebody. (For instance, it's a "Final Fantasy crossover" if someone's stuck in a Gilgamesh costume.) Apparently there's a club for people who write them?

Actually, pointless crossovers, period. They always get a lot of likes from people who're fans of the other work, but most of them have random events in place of a plot and no conflict to speak of.

In one particular fandom, I stopped going to the kink meme because of all the genderswap.

I don't object to genderswap in general, I like reinventing characters in genderswap fan art, and have even considered doing cosplay of a couple genderbent characters (with some thought put into it and personalities taken into account, as opposed to, y'know, wearing a bikini/miniskirt and halter top in the character's color scheme and my own hair and calling it a genderbend cosplay) - but holy crap, I was having trouble finding fic that WASN'T genderswap for at least one character for awhile, and that's when genderswap fic starts to irritate me.

(Particularly because I'm apparently non-gendered enough that gender makes zero difference to me and I have never seen a point in genderswap fic because it doesn't make sense to me unless they're written as exactly the same except with different parts.)
