it's not that i didn't care for him, but i didn't care more for him than for any other part of the movie. the majority of the fandom, however, seems to only care about him, which i don't understand, because the movie also had sam, nick fury being a badass, and steve and natasha being friends. so i was like, ok, that's one fandom i won't bother to participate in.

Slightly off topic but does anyone know the name of the font used in this secret? I love it! It makes the secret look like an indie film poster.

Well, Sam was definitely more in the movie than the WS, so I don't see how taking off those 5 minutes of WS-only would have made a difference. These 'mutually exclusive' crap secrets always sound so trollish.

That's completely your right, and there's nothing wrong with that. Different storylines or characters affect different people in a myriad of ways...or they don't. A lot of my friends love stuff I don't and vice versa - and while I can sort of see what they like about it, it doesn't work for me.

I think Bucky's story is something that will affect many people for different ways, be it because they just like hot guys in tears or because they appreciate the tragic arc, or even because it's one of those characters that can remind people of personal trauma in whatever form.

But, as always, it's okay not to like things - and Sam is pretty cool.

He was definitely not the best part of the film for me personally and I am sort of overwhelmed by the amount of adoration for him BUT I am definitely not confused by it. I totally get why he's popular, there's a lot of stuff there in his story that appeals to people even if it doesn't necessarily appeal to me as strongly. And I'll just let everyone else have their fun while I concentrate on the things I liked most. Sam was one of the things I liked more but I wouldn't say I'd cut WS for more Sam. I actually feel like I didn't get to "know" WS enough but I think that was down to the nature of his storyline in this one...

I don't know why it has to be one or the other; I would've taken more of both.

However, this movie was already packed and it didn't seem like Marvel had more time for anything. Both Sam and Bucky probably had deleted scenes. (Which will be on the DVD/Blu-Ray, I imagine.)

All I can say is I loved the entire cast (Steve, Nat, Sam, Fury, Maria, Bucky) but yes, people do have favorites and there's nothing wrong with that. (Personally I was more into Bucky than Sam because I felt like I knew Bucky a bit more since he appeared in the first Cap film, but that doesn't mean Sam wasn't still a great addition to the cast. And Mackie is a treasure, so hopefully Marvel will use him well in the future.)

I don't get it either, except that people love the tragic backstory thing no matter what or who it involves.

Not that I dislike him, but yeah, definitely not my take-away message of the movie.

Me too, could not care less. I wouldn't mind him if he hadn't taken over the fandom the way he did, but now I just want him off my dash.

All I wanted after CA2 was Natasha fic, but in all the stories I've tried she was...kind of there. They all somehow felt like the writers didn't care all that much about her. It's all about Bucky.

Nothing wrong with not liking the fandom favourite, it happens to us all at some-point but I get how it would make traversing fandom tricky since it's very much slanted towards him.

Personally I loved everyone in this movie, all the relationships were great and I am really looking forward to seeing more of Sam in later films since I greatly enjoyed his introduction in TWS.

Sam was really cool and I can see why you would want to talk about him. Kaijinscendre mentioned that the movie barely brought up his past, but what we did learn was interesting, realistic (and in my opinion, relevant to the US military culture as we draw down and bring our guys home).

i think the bucky / steve/bucky storyline seriously hits some common angsty kinks--plus the fact that the movie left the story incredibly open-ended which is like. the siren call of fanfic writers everywhere. and it doesn't help that sebastian stan is a conventionally attractive white dude.

but you're definitely not alone! i know a few who are in your camp--only they're few and far between :(

Sorta agree. I love the original pre-brainwashed Bucky, but WS Bucky doesn't really interest me, he's just some generic troubled woobie with no personality. I was also surprised at how he was barely in the movie, considering how hyped he was. I'm a little bitter over how fandom didn't even acknowledge Bucky's or Sebastian Stan's existence prior to Winter Soldier.

Sam was my favourite character in the movie. And the only 'Stucky feels' I care about is the chubby!punk!rocker!Bucky verse that's lives in a tiny corner of tumblr. It is a thing of beauty and wonder.

I don't know why a lot of the comments here seem to be positioning it as "you either loved Bucky or everything else". I loved all of it. I loved Bucky, Steve (STEVE oh my god I have so many feelings about Steve Rogers), Natasha, Sam, Steve/Bucky, Steve/Natasha, Steve/Sam, that moment of Sam/Natasha flirting, Fury and Natasha's sort of father/daughter relationship, Maria Hill taking care of business, all of it. Give me pretty much any character or relatonship from this movie and I could get tl;dr about them. IT WAS A REALLY GOOD CHARACTER MOVIE GUYS.
