I don't think those things are as important to little kids, though, especially how much money a movie makes.

>Disney princesses being forgotten

Do you remember Princess Eilonwy?

I think Elsa's popularity will fade when a new Disney princess movie comes out. Rapunzel was extremely popular until Merida.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-20 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
I dunno, I have a feeling that a lot of people said the same thing about Ariel, but twenty-five years later she's still one of Disney's biggest money makers--despite Belle being released very soon afterwards.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-20 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
No, Rapunzel maintained dominion as reigning favorite new princess over Merida, even after Merida was introduced. In fact, only a little after Merida's movie, and she's basically forgotten. In terms of amount of merchandise, she's fairly low.

I wouldn't worry, OP, I think Rapunzel has more fans than Tiana. First Black Princess might be important in a social context, but PATF unfortunately didn't really nail the old Disney magic, and Rapunzel has all that hair to play with. Marketing wise, it's Tiana I see being comparatively left behind.

PATF was a lot more inventive than Tangled. And it had a better male lead.

This. Rapunzel still has a hell of a lot of push when it comes to toys and pins and stuff. You usually only see Tiana stuff as kids' costumes or as part of a larger princess lineup.

I see a lot of posts about Tangled on my tumblr, and I haven't even watched it so I don't actually follow anyone for it. SO... probably not easily forgotten.

Rapunzel is way more popular than Tiana. Where have you been hanging out?

(Anonymous) 2014-06-19 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I definitely think Tiana will be forgotten faster than Rapunzel. I think she and her movie already are fading from people's memories.

OT but wow some of those designs are terrible

I will leave this name here: Princess Eilonwy.

Princess Kida too.

Not part of the official DP line because her movie bombed badly. Same, unfortunately, with Kida

Yeah no. Rapunzel is in no danger of being forgotten. She even gets more merch than Tiana.

Frozen is the highest grossing animated movie ever? It's an okay movie but man, is it overrated. Nothing to add to the secret, sorry.

Am I the only one bothered by the timeline?

(Anonymous) 2014-06-20 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
Frozen didn't come out between Tangled and The Princess and the Frog, nor was Elsa officially released between Rapunzel and Tiana. For god's sake.

I seem to be reading too much porn. It took me a good while to realize what DP was referring to.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-20 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't worry too much about Rapunzel. She still does regular meet-and-greets at Disneyland, plus she has her own little show multiple times a day in the Fantasy Faire. Tiana, though, only shows up for meet-and-greets on rotation, and Merida's probably going to end up doing the same. Merida recently lost her dedicated meet-and-greet area at Disneyland, so who knows what's going to happen to her. Rapunzel, though? She's doing fine. She's singing with Flynn Rider three times a day on stage and signing autographs afterwards.

She's in my top 3 (the other two are not) and my friends like her a lot too. What is memorable of her is her attitude and social environment that I could relate to.

It's just a matter of preference, really, although I think Frozen is heavily overrated. I mentioned top 3 earlier, that means I like other princesses as well, that doesn't make Rapunzel any less adequate of a character to me anyways.

Yeah, Rapunzel is wildly popular. I don't think you have to worry. "Historical significance of film" has nothing to do with relative popularity or how much Disney pushes the characters.
