Re: Sexuality v. Sexual Orientation

The slut-shamey part has been my problem with many who say they are "demi" "omni" or "pan" sexual (which don't two of those mean 'attracted to non-human species? Which we really don't HAVE any sentient non-human species as of this point???).

Then again, the assholes I've known who claimed demi were....well, assholes. Maybe it's not that way for everyone, but it is hard for me to not roll my eyes when someone says "I only sleep with people I love! I'm only ATTRACTED to people I KNOW!", because THAT'S AN EXTREMELY, EXTREMELY COMMON human experience across ALL sexualities. So much that it doesn't seem like it needs its own "label".

Pansexual doesn't mean attracted to non-humans, though?

I think "pan"sexual means attracted to all genders, which includes transpeople and genderfluid people. I think. I've also heard pansexual used interchangeably with demisexual, which is confusing as well.

How are those people non-human tho??

Re: Sexuality v. Sexual Orientation

Trans folk are not non-human. I'm not sure where you got that I was saying they were something other than human?

Re: Sexuality v. Sexual Orientation

No seriously, you're calling non-binary people inhuman?

Re: Sexuality v. Sexual Orientation

...no??? Where did "pansexual" which includes "genders other than cis man and cis woman" mean non human???

Re: Sexuality v. Sexual Orientation

[personal profile] quirkytizzy 2014-06-21 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)

I am honestly confused. Can you explain where you think I said that non binary gender peopled aren't human?

Re: Sexuality v. Sexual Orientation

Since you brought up omni and pan sexualites into a conversation where they weren't already part of the discussion and then exclaimed 'don't those mean non-human?!' gramatically and logically you are saying omni and pan sexualities are non-human.

Re: Sexuality v. Sexual Orientation

[personal profile] quirkytizzy 2014-06-21 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Then that was a grammatical error on my fault. Absolutely. Omnisexual, which is the whole "non human" thing, is not the same as demi or pansexual.

Re: Sexuality v. Sexual Orientation

You hit the nail on the head. The biggest problems many people have with demisexuality are:

A) the slutshaming, which does unfortunately crop up in the asexual community

and

B) the tendency to claim "oppression" for being demisexual, which is no.

Re: Sexuality v. Sexual Orientation

(Anonymous) 2014-06-21 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
I think omni- and pan- are used pretty interchangeably to include transmen and transwomen into their spectrum. Especially if the subject in question in pre-op. Because we can talk all we want about being the gender we say we are, that doesn't mean people attracted to that gender necessarily like bits belonging to the nonmatching sex.

Re: Sexuality v. Sexual Orientation

(Anonymous) 2014-06-21 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
But doesn't bi already cover that? I mean, if you're attracted to men and women already, then I don't see how what particular parts they have would change anything.

Re: Sexuality v. Sexual Orientation

(Anonymous) 2014-06-21 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
I could see that maybe for transwomen, but, purely sexually-speaking well...a constructed penis is not the same as a cis penis. And a strap-on really isn't. And from an emotional standpoint, there's generally some perfectly understandable baggage that comes with dating a trans person, and some people just don't want to deal with that. And that's not a slight on anyone, it's just that we all have hangups.

Maybe for some bisexual people, but I'm bi and absolutely not attracted to trans or genderfluid folks. I'm attracted to cis men and cis women - that's it. I think it's fair enough to have a separate category for those who ARE attracted to all genders and all spectrums OF genders.

I just wish we could have that label at a price that doesn't involve slut shaming others.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-21 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
Or you need to re-examine your definition of slut-shaming.

It would be, if I had a tumblr. (Actually, I might. I don't remember my log in, though....maybe I could do that Recover Password thing they do...)

EDIT: Lol, I posted this in the wrong place. Silly Google HTML based webpage! shakes finger at internet

On topic: Slut shaming is the very basic practice of making someone else feel bad, ashamed, dirty, or otherwise "not a good person" for having a sex drive. Having someone crow around about not sleeping with people until they are IN LURVE, UNLIKE ALL THOSE OTHER PEOPLE, is slut shaming.

Maybe you're not one of those assholes. Who knows? Crazier things have happened, no?

You are all over the place in a way that makes no sense. How is the label pansexual 'slut shaming'? You intimate with your chain of thought that it is but that doesn't make any sense. This entire conversation is a bad showing for you and you should really just stop.

I didn't say pansexual was slut-shaming. Where did I say that? I was talking about demisexual.

Where in the world did I put the words "pansexual" and "slut shaming" in the same sentence?

If anything, perhaps you need to stop and read.

Seriously. Point it out to me. Where did I say pansexual was slut shaming? Can you find where I said those words????

Yes, bisexuality includes transgendered and gender-fluid individuals for much of the community.

Actually we have plenty of sentient non-human species. What we don't have is sapient non-human species.

I should go bitch about that in the word usage thread.

What is the difference? I'm actually discussing this in another place, and I think you're right, but I don't know the difference.

Sentient means a creature has awareness. From observations of all sorts of animals, they have plenty of awareness.

Sapient means intelligent. We humans call ourselves "Homo Sapiens" because we're basically saying "The One Intelligent Species".
