Another round of "Why Tumblr, Why?"

(Anonymous) 2014-06-27 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
I've gotten like four asks from people (or one person, it's always anon) asking me to put a trigger warning on pictures of food...and occasionally drinks. I'm not even talking about eating disorders or anything, it's literally just pictures of food. How does this person even cope in real life? There is like zero percent chance that I'll ever give a trigger warning for food, and I've told them this, but it still persists.

This person hasn't just unfollowed you?

Not yet! At this point I can only assume they're either dumb or they're fucking with me

What food was it? The only thing I could possibly be would maybe be like animal carcases (like game being skinned or something)... or maybe someone could be grossed out raw meat, or fish guts or something. But it's not triggery. Especially not cooked food.

There are a lot of reasons to at least tag food pictures as "food."

if you don't have a million followers, you could try figuring out who it is and block them. if it's someone asking for a food trigger warning, they probably have that info listed somewhere in their blog where it can be easily found. if you can find and block them, they won't see your posts on their dash.

Ignore them. They'll get the picture eventually.

I've heard of people requesting this and I think... you're kidding, right? Where the hell are they where they aren't frequently bombarded with food images like ads for restaurants or people eating?

I've had a several years long battle with an eating disorder when I was in my late teens and early twenties and even I realize that if mere pictures of food is enough to send you over the edge then you should probably either take a break from the internet for your own safety or try to get used to it because food is everywhere and you're just going to make yourself worse if you insist on not coping with it.

I know it's inevitable, but I do dislike when actual pornography winds up in the "food porn" tag. ;____; I'm just here for the pretty pictures of cupcakes and sushi, I did not need to see that thumbnail of cucumber fuckin'.

Turn anon asks off. Easy solution.

This might be petty? But Oh God, please stop posting porn to the tags of celebs and claiming it's look alike or ("This is so celeb1 and celeb2 and how they would do it it looks just like them!") when it doesn't even show the actor's faces.

I can sort of understand if the person in question has a serious eating disorder and isn't dealing with it very well, but in that case they shouldn't single you out. Food is everywhere, I don't know how they would be able to stand watching television, looking at magazines, etc.

If I were you I would make a post that said 'To the anon who keeps asking me to put trigger warnings on pictures of food: lol, no.'

But then, I'm a bit of a bitch. It might be better just to ignore it, ha.

lol I'm guessing that's why I keep seeing people tagging their posts as "tw food" now. I saw one person who runs a headcanon blog use it on a post that mentions a character just drinking a cup of tea. it's....tea.

"How do you cope in real life" is such a tired question, because the simple truth (if you're really interested, and that question is not just your smug way of trying to get them to admit to overreacting) is that yes, wow, we do in fact cope very badly because we are stressed or triggered by some everyday thing that can't be avoided all the time because real life doesn't have tags/warnings! So the least someone else can do is put a tag on it on a site like tumblr where it is possible to do that, and that makes things that much easier on us for a short while.

And yes, "get help" has probably crossed the minds of most people with these issues, so no need to offer your advice about that. Just, help takes time and you can't completely put your life on hold for it.

It's probably because of Ramadan. I've seen a lot of ~The More You Know!~ posts on my dash concerning Ramadan and why EVERYONE should tw: food.

Re: Another round of "Why Tumblr, Why?"

(Anonymous) 2014-06-27 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Do you at least tag it as "food"? I get the annoyance, but it seems like a pretty simple thing for you to do. And it's not like food warnings are really out there, there are a lot of reasons why someone would want it tagged and it's a pretty common thing.

Re: Another round of "Why Tumblr, Why?"

(Anonymous) 2014-06-27 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
I know a lot of people hate trigger warnings and seem to have this automatic reaction of "lol no" to people asking for any of them, but I honestly think you're the bigger asshole for not tagging it. I mean how much work is it to just put a simple tag on your posts? I know there's a limit and all, but if this is the only thing people have asked of you it just seems like so little.

Re: Another round of "Why Tumblr, Why?"

(Anonymous) 2014-06-27 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't Ramadan now, or at least soon? I mean, I always tag food posts with "food" for organizational purposes, so I've never gotten messages like that, but I think that's a fairly good reason for not wanting to see images of food.

Re: Another round of "Why Tumblr, Why?"

Its probably for Ramadan.

Out of curiosity, do you tag it with something like "food" or "food pictures"?

Because I can understand not wanting to tag them with something like "tw: food", but for both organizational purposes and trigger purposes, tagging them with just "food" doesn't seem all that unreasonable.

You don't need a disorder to be trying to change to healthier eating habits and not appreciate delicious food all up on your dash, so it's not an inherently unreasonable request, to me. But it's entirely on them to unfollow you once you told them you weren't going to accommodate them, especially if they weren't going to put their big-person pants on and make the request un-anon.

Re: Another round of "Why Tumblr, Why?"

(Anonymous) 2014-06-27 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
I tend to tag absolutely everything with whatever terms apply, because I'm organized like that. But I wouldn't add a special warning for food either (or most other things.)
