Inspired by other GC thread.

What characters does "90% of fandom" see as a top or bottom that you see as the reverse?

I'm not sure if this counts, but I see Duo Maxwell as more of a switch than just a top or just a bottom. I think he would enjoy both and wouldn't really have too much of a preference. It would depend on his mood imo.

TF2 Scout (as a top, not a bottom!).

He just has absolutely no idea how to actually do it. Uhhh, so they're uhh, here, and uhhh, what does he do now?

Loki is a bottom a lot. A lot. The only pairing I regularly read him in where he is not the bottom 90% of the time is Tony/Loki. And that might be because Tony is short.

And I honestly think if Loki had a preference, that power hungry, paranoid, overcompensating jerk would totally top.

I would see Loki as a someone who's bought into the fandom thing. Convinced he likes to top or should top or must top, except it all stems from insecurity. I'd love to see someone write him as convinced he's a total top and confused by not getting as much satisfaction from topping as he thought he would, because briefly feeling powerful doesn't address any of the issues he has.

But god, not the way fandom writes him, and bottoming wouldn't be the answer.

I completely prefer Loki as a top too, I wish there were more fic.

Yea, this is why I read so little Thor/Loki. I love the pairing, but the number of 'Loki is a weepy bottom' stuff irritates me and doesn't fit the image I have of him. I agree with you very much on Loki being so power hungry and in need of control that I think he would love topping. (Not that I would be adverse to him ever bottoming, but ugh, I just want to read Thor/Loki with bottom!Thor. Fandom, you disappoint.)

It's probably not 90%, but a good portion of SPN fandom seems to see Dean as super toppy 24/7. I don't see it

I don't tend to see anybody as a "top" or a "bottom" (unless they explicitly state said preferences in canon) but I'd say Naruto's more likely to be on top in any potential Naruto/Sasuke fucking. The overwhelming majority of slash fans in that fandom disagree.

...Or disagreed, rather. I'm hard-pressed to find anyone, myself included, who gives any fucks about Naruto anymore.

Yeah, I never see anyone as top orbottom either. Maybe I'm doing slash wrong, but I don't think I have a single pairing I ship where I care who does what.

Really? Huh, I thought Naruto topping weepy angst bottom Sasuke was the norm.

I don't tend to prefer any character to be exclusively top or bottom, but when one is more prominent in the fandom/fics I probably think it is the other way around...

I don't like peoples height, size or personality dominate what they are/how they act in the bedroom to the same degree as it seems a lot of people do.

Teen Wolf usually has Derek topping since he's older, has more muscles and is the werewolf. I love seeing bottom!Derek just to switch it up.

I admit to liking top Derek, but I like it better when whoever he's shipped with is topping him from the bottom. Dominant top Derek feels OOC to me.

Same in the reverse with Stiles. Submissive bottom Stiles? Weird.

... so I end up shipping Sterek, just not the way a majority of fandom seems to. :l

I don't usually have a problem with top!Derek or bottom!Derek, but bottom!Stiles so often feels really ooc and weird to me. (Maybe because bottom!Stiles so often means weepy virginal Stiles, which is really not that character at all). There isn't nearly enough bottom!Derek in any case.

I've already said it in kaijin's thread, but I love Loki as a top and Thor as a bottom. I don't even bother looking for it anymore because it's always been so difficult for me to find, and I just feel like it's a waste of time.

Oh, and in the early days of SPN fandom (when I read Wincest) it felt like Dean was always bottoming. At first I even liked it, but there came a point where I grew tired of it so I switched over to bottom!Sam and read mostly that.

...I feel guilty for even including this one (since both characters are teens), but Billy/Teddy. Billy bottoms way more, and I don't know if it's because Teddy has a much larger frame in his kree/skrull form (and is taller and more muscular in his 'human' one), but I find the reverse more appealing.

K Project, most everybody seems to see Yata as always bottoming but I can really easily see him topping and Fushimi as a bottom. I think Fushimi would take whatever Yata gave him, and even though he'd be awkward about it I can see Yata just kinda going for it -- plus when you think about it, generally for most positions the top would always be looking at the bottom but not necessarily the other way around, and I think Fushimi would like that. Actually one of the Sarumi tropes I kinda hate is Fushimi the confident sex god and Yata the blushing virgin, because Fushimi's probably just as much of a virgin as Yata (seeing as having sex with someone generally involves interacting with them first and Fushimi is clearly not much of a fan of social interaction).

In Ace Attorney fandom, for whatever reason most of the fandom sees Phoenix as the top in the Phoenix/Edgeworth relationship. But I much prefer to see Edgeworth as the top and have written most of my fics that way.

Most of YGO fandom saw Kaiba topping Jounouchi (and Kaiba being more of a sexual agressor in general).

I always thought it was much more interesting if Jounouchi was the more confident/more active one. (Than again, I liked manga!Jou and Series 1 anime!Kaiba; to me manga!Kaiba (aka green-haired Season 0 Kaiba) was just too messed up to have sex with anyome.)

I'd like to see more fics with non-penetrative sex, and I don't see why there has to be a D/s element in everything.

Yes, I understand that one's position doesn't always equate to being dominant or submissive, but I don't find that dynamic sexy, at all.

All of this. Seems like everywhere I turn, sex is a power struggle in fic, even if the characters don't have that kind of relationship outside of the bedroom. It gets tedious. Where's my equality frottage, damn it.
