K-ON?

(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
Source material was aimed at adult males, tho.

(Didn't stop it from getting a bigger female, non-otaku fanbase than usual however.)

(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's why I mentioned it.

Getting more in topic the wank above makes me think it's not males that are stopping females from getting their fanservice shows, it's other females.

DA

I honestly doubt that. Most of the time, anime aimed at women don't sell very well. There are some exceptions, like Free and Uta no Prince-sama.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
I don't mean to pour salt in the wound to some here, but Nakamura's anime sold more than 10k units, had already sold 3 million copies before the anime adaptation, and she's regularly in the top-selling manga with the big shonen hits. That's an unique feat for BL.

Like I said, there are a few exceptions. I'm not familiar with how well Junjou sold, so I didn't include it.

I think it's just ridiculous to say that women are the main reason there's not more anime titles aimed at women being produced. It's a combination of issues and it can't just be pinned on one thing.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
It sold very, very well. Average was 9,574.

I think that some women complaining very loudly that "X is offensive to women/women are not attracted to X!" may be part of the reason, though reality always contradicts them. Though maybe that's more of a western thing.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
I highly doubt that's any part of the reason why more anime titles aimed at women aren't made tbh.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
I think so too, mostly because as I said it is a western thing, but who knows really.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Westerners complaining about anime has like zero effect on the market.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
The japanese complaining might. I didn't say it had to be westerners doing the complaining, I said that women complaining for other women - though said women are completely fine with what's being complained about - is a western thing.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 11:55 am (UTC)(link)
Japanese women don't complain like we do, at least not yet.

The Japanese do not give a flying fuck what anybody in the west is saying when they make their shows. If we happen to like it, they'll take our money, if we don't, piss off, gaikokujin.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 01:45 pm (UTC)(link)
And that's how it should be.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
Most anime doesn't sell well and fujoshi oriented anime has an advantage since the choices are more limited.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Ayrt

That's true enough. I think there's not more anime aimed at women being produced because companies are afraid to take risk. Anime doesn't sell all that well to begin with and stuff aimed at women even more so for the most part, so why take the risk? Pandering to otaku is just easier because they spend tons of money. It's a safer bet with them

(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
So why is Love Stage, the only true fujoshi show in the season, bombing so hard? I know it's early and it may pick up, but it didn't stop other shows like Bakumatsu Rock from doing quite well.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
da

How is it bombing? Projections based on preorders or what? Got a link?

(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
**8,845位/**8,079位 ★ (***,*94 pt) [*,**0予約] 2014/09/26 LOVE STAGE!! 限定版 第1巻 [Blu-ray]

**4,621位/**4,218位 ○ (***,170 pt) [*,**0予約] 2014/09/26 LOVE STAGE!! 限定版 第1巻 [DVD]

These are updated rankster (google it) rankings calculated from amazon pre-orders, which are usually quite accurate to actual retail sales. The closer to 1 the ranking (first number) the better the chances to actually sell. 1 pt = 1 pre-order. As I said, the prediction may always turn out inaccurate and it may sell really well in retail, but so far for a fujoshi show fujoshi really don't like it.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
Do you got a link? Tried googling and got squat. Thank you for explaining it. Those larger numbers, that's where it's ranked against other preorders, right?

(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
http://rankstker.net/

Yeah, that's the ranking among other shows.

I guess K-ON without the infantile moe thing that makes it aimed at male otaku.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
I've never seen K-ON, but I'm curious what you think a female version of Nagisa or Makoto would be like?

(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I do not know! I haven't watched Free, it doesn't interest me at all, but I know that K-ON's infantile moeblob schtick (and that of other anime like it) is done so as not to threaten the masculinity of the male audience it is aimed at. Free! may have similar characters but I'm betting it's not quite the same, and I wasn't thinking about straight-up genderswapped versions of their specific archetypes.

If one of those dudes is a clumsy, warbling supersized toddler then I probably would not like them in any form, haha.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-21 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Nagisa is pretty cutesy and moe, but how is Makoto? Yes, he can be a wimp sometimes, but I'd hardly call him cutesy and moe.
