Eleven, but only by a slim margin. And I've only recently admitted to myself that I do prefer him a little. But I love them all. And I'm sure I'm going to love Twelve just as much.

My Doctor is Nine. I love his lines, I love his attitude, I love his respect for life. "Coward. Any day."

You know, I think <Nine might be my fav, too. He was my first Doctor, though;, so that sort of skews it.

+1. It helps that he left me wanting more, instead of staying the Doctor so long that I couldn't wait to see the back of him, I'm sure. But he was so good.

The second.

(And I love the sixties styling, and the sixties vision of the future).

Ten. I stopped watching after Ten left because it upset me so much. It still hurts.

I can't imagine giving up the show because the Doctor changes. That feels like it is kind of missing the point of the show. I have my favorite, but moving past losing one Doctor and learning to love the next one is part of what Doctor Who is all about. There were Doctors before Ten and there are Doctors after.

5. But almost entirely because of how much I want to cuddle Peter Davison at all times.

After that, probably 11, 10, and 7 are the rest of my favorites, in that rough order.

Pfft! I have no favorite Doctor! I love the Doctor as the sum of all his incarnations! I don't differentiate between them, and --

It's Nine. Always and forever Nine. :)

+ all of time and space...

Nine made me fall in love with Doctor Who. The others are all awesome in their own ways but I'll always go back to Nine. Re-watching his episodes is a fantastic way to spend a weekend. :)

You, I like you.

He was my Doctor too, I enjoyed Ten a lot as well but Nine really was my Doctor.

Pretty much how I feel.

I'm old enough that it's a lot more muddled for me, but this is a really good answer, and I kind of agree with it.

This is tough.

There's something about 3 that I really like. And I love that 11 is half-mad. But I guess, when it comes down to it, I'm just another 10 girl. And my favorite thing about him is the bit that most of his detractors hate: his arrogance. I love that he's slowly turning into a megalomaniac, and that it comes across as awful and tragic.

His arrogance would bother me less if the show portrayed it as a bad thing. I'm all for an arrogant, not perfect Doctor. But most of the time the show justifies it and portrays him as in the right when he really, really isn't. That being said, what bugs me most about Ten is his humanity. He is too human for me. He doesn't feel alien enough. I still love him, but not quite as much as others.

I like all of them for different reasons, but I think I like Two the best. He was childish and wish and silly and occasionally vicious; he hadn't had all the most terrible things happen to him yet, and he was just so JOYFUL in his travelling around the universe with his pocket-size TARDIS team. He was also very tender and kind at moments in an unselfconcious way. ...and most of the general 'Doctor-y' traits I love were begun with Pat Troughton! I love Eleven partly because he reminds me a lot of Two.

I've only seen some of new Who, so I have to go with Ten. I DID like Matt Smith as the doctor too, but a lot of his episodes weren't as good imo, and overall I wasn't as fond of the writing.

Seven. Aside from some stray episodes of Three and Four which I could never follow, due to missing the rest of the serials they were part of (and in Four's case seemed to mostly involve him standing in an empty quarry talking to nobody in particular), he's the first I ever saw, so he is My Doctor. Also, his run isn't as bad as people say (what I've seen of Six's isn't, either).

Five, Nine, and Eleven, so far.

Nine and Three are my babes, but I still feel bad for Colin Baker and the trouble he had as Six.

I don't know if McGann just isn't a very good actor, or if he just had awful direction and editing; so I would feel really awful for him, but maybe he wasn't up to it. OK, now I feel bad for insulting Paul McGann. At least you're pretty, Paul?

Ten and Eleven needed better scripts, but Matt Smith is an adorable goon.

Haven't seen the new Scottish guy, but so far he's the only one I'd throw off a cliff. Well, I'd throw Seven off a cliff as part of a gambit expecting him to catch himself with his brollie, but that's not the same thing.

I think my favourite is still Five. I raided the town library for as many of the novels as I could find, and when I found a video store that had a decent Doctor Who collection, hired as many as I could (not just of Fivem but it was a highlight finding the videos for him).

My earliest would have been reruns of Three and Four, with a few badly remembered Six episodes. The most clearly remembered Old Who was Seven, which was around when I was about 11.

I like New Who plenty, and each of the Doctors has their ups and downs, though I have sentimental feelings for Old Who.

Re: Doctor Who fans: Who is your favorite Doctor?

(Anonymous) 2014-08-05 11:34 am (UTC)(link)
I'm fond of most of them, with a weighting towards the Classic doctors, but Three and Seven will always be my doctors, I think.

Three because I loved his crankier, more-than-slightly bitter worldview, his reactions to being jerked around by the Timelords, compared to his still cranky but also very warm relationships to Jo and Liz and Sarah-Jane, and his testy relationship with UNIT and the Brig where he still somewhat trusts them and goes out of his way to help them. I also adore the Brig himself, Delgado!Master and Jo Grant as a companion, so the whole cast of that era make me happy.

Seven because he's come through a lot of the troubles as Five and Six smaller and more manipulative and more vicious in places, he's come out as a manipulator on a grand scale, but he still struggles really hard to hold on to some sense of connection and companionship with people. My two favourite serials are Battlefield and Survival, and in both of those there's a very strong thread of him trying to preserve peace over violence where he can, and reconnecting with old friends and old foes in the process.

In general I prefer the Classic doctors in large part because of the context of their universe. The Doctor felt smaller, more constrained and more defiant to me in the context of the great powers and civilisations of Classic Who. Not only the Time Lords but also beings like the Black and White Guardians. The Doctor, even when acting alone, knew that he made many of his decisions in accordance with or defiance of the wishes of people who could and would cripple him and lock him away if they wanted to. He stood trial multiple times before people that could actually pass and enforce judgement on him as one of their own, he was their assassin and their saviour and their judge in his turn, and it gave him a context that I think the New Doctors often lack ever since the show has made him all Kal-El, Last Son of Krypton, with powers as the plot demands and the capacity to pick up planets and drop them where he pleases.

Which, yes, I realise was the point in several storylines in Ten and Eleven's eras, it's just not as enjoyable for me to watch. It's an awesome arc, but I keep hearing Six's rant at the Timelords during his trial and wishing the Doctor was still on that side of it.
