I've gotta agree. I went on it the other day and was immeadiately turned off the idea. It's all too much "romantic" "lovey dovey" nonsense. Give me some plot! Make them work for it (whatever ends they are looking for).


To be fair, my OTPs usually are not canon and in canon they tend to have a lot of tension and anger toward each other. So no, A cannot, will not, would never cook a candlelit dinner will B blushes and Barry White plays in the background. And this is a moderate prompt.

God, yes, that shit is so annoying. It's just as bad as all those "imagines" things that keep popping up on Tumblr that involve a member of one direction or that other band and "you" having twins and taking them on their first trip to the zoo or something. And now I see that they are also making Polyvore combos to go with them--right down to the content of the diaper bags (and it always makes me laugh to see these sweet summer children thinking they are going to go home from the hospital after having twins in size 00 skinny jeans and a white top with heels).

I think it CAN be cute, what annoys me more it sort of gets turned into prompts for shitty drabble-ish fic that contributes no more than the original "imagine your OTP"

I love this secret so much. OP, I've found that it's possible to recover from prompts like that by reading kink fic. It's how to get through the nauseating parts of the internet.

When I see those, I actually usually imagine my original characters doing the things in those.

The results are often kinda hilarious, and character building. Especially when one or both down right refuse. But sometimes it's sad to, like this one "imagine your otp" that was meant to be really adorable, but the two characters that sprung to mind, well, the thing in the prompt would only happen if one of them was dead.

And yes, these things have actually contributed enough to enhance a story I will work on.

Eh, my eyes just kind of glaze over a bit as soon as "Imagine.... (◡‿◡✿)" appears. If I'm not already friends with the person, like we're all up in each other's faces about head canons, so every time we imagine there's a trail of previous imagine to go with it, I don't wanna hear them. Stranger imagines are always bland.

As someone who likes shipping fic and a little fluffy romance now and then, I rarely get these either. (They're either sort of bland or easily OOC for the vast majority of my pairings.)

Or the ones like, 'image your icon petting your hair and whispering in your ear that everything will be alright'. My icon is Midnighter, so when I see those I'm like, "Who drugged Midnighter? Get the fuck away from me," and also, "How is he going to react when he sobers up? I like my spine where it is."

Yes. This meme is asinine. I'll also point out that it isn't typically used as a writing prompt or roleplay scenario- it's just a word vomit smattering of sentimentality. Like, you're actually expected to just I don't know.. sit back and imagine it. Maybe sigh dreamily. I only ever see them reblogged with no comment. Maybe a squealy explanation of who the reblogger is ~*imagining*~ in the tags. Half of the imaginings are common place everyday/cliche activities that are somehow cute and poignant when applied to an OTP. 'Imagine one half of your OTP wakes up to breakfast in bed UwU'

I get such second hand embarrassment reading this bullshit. It's almost as bad as run-on sentence Tumblr tag headcanons. I hate those 'imagine your OTP' things because they are so cheesy and lovey-dovey. Most of my ships are dysfunctional or involve deeply flawed characters. I hate how a lot of fic or art try to cute-ify things.

Like taking a character who is grumpy and unsociable and making him some smirking sex god who calls his lover 'darling' or some shit. Ugh.

Eh, there's some good stuff that comes out of those 'Imagine Your OTP' things. I was inspired to write a mini-fic from a prompt after I had been in a bit of a writing slump lately, which was nice.

Yeah, there's some stupid prompts and some prompts that are either really OOC for my pairing or just really specific for certain characters/fandoms, but just scroll past them? No need to rage so much.

Eh, I generally like the idea. Most of my OTPs don't find the cute lovey-dovey couple archetype, so most of the fun is trying to figure out HOW the prompts could end up hapening in the first place.

My main disappointement is that I finally got fed-up and had to unfollow the main blog a few weeks ago because the blog runner wouldn't stop stirring drama over the FUCKING SMALLEST THING. Then posting personnal stuff there instead of using their personnal blog. Like, okay, sure, it's their blog, they can run it however they want, but why would you do that???
