there is nothing to love about that movie, sadly. It crushed my Alexander-loving heart :(

How often do you shampoo/condition your hair?

(Anonymous) 2014-08-29 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure this has been asked before, but I want to know how often everyone here washes their hair? Lately, I've been hearing people say that they only wash their hair once a week, some wash it like every 10 days.

I've also heard of people who don't use shampoo but instead apple cider vinegar? Does anyone do that? If so, how was the process and how do you like your hair?

I used to wash my hair every 2-3 days, but I've pushed it back to 3-4 days now. Any longer and my hair is too greasy, and every day shampooing either dries my hair or makes me scalp over produce oil.

I'm also kinda in between brands right now. I use Garnier's Sleek and Shine Shampoo (mostly for the scent; don't think the shampoo does anything much to my hair) and Organix's Cherry Blossom Ginseng Conditioner. The conditioner really leaves my hair soft and smelling good. But Organix can be pretty costly at times. =(

Sorry, I just came out of the shower.

Yeah, well, white people have racism sort of hard-wired into them. The have to work damn hard not to accidentally slip up and show it. I can totally see where the subtleties of the African American experience might escape them. I don't excuse it, but as long as they're trying to overcome their society-guided worldview, and don't go back to burning crosses, I think I can live with a few minor slip ups.

Go on youtube and watch a couple of clips of Marie Barone from Everybody Loves Raymond. She is the absolute epitome of passive-aggressiveness. ;)

(Anonymous) 2014-08-29 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Huh. I'm not white or hispanic and I legit thought white-skinned "spics" and "gypsies" existed, so probably that's where I got confused.

I love your whole comment, but particularly this: He kind of reminds me of a kid punching his fist into his favorite baseball glove repeatedly to reassure himself that it's strong and sturdy and it's not about to fall apart on him.

I think that's a great analogy for Hutch's poking.

I'm one of those uncultured swine who doesn't give a shit if the water used for tea is heated in a microwave so...no, definitely not. I do only drink my tea black though. I think anything else makes it taste gross

Chocolate snob. I can no longer stomach cheap brands like Hershey. I want the good stuff and only the good stuff.

I am apparently a bit of a beer snob, at times. Which is hilarious because I don't even drink that much and I'm more of a Scotch person, anyway. But there are certain beers I'm just not going to touch (looking at you, Stella Artois and Heineken).

Did you spit out the first bite of your chocolate at the testing?

So....what episode is this? I must watch it.

Comics and Cartoons. I don't talk much but I love storytime.

I'm judgmental about everything. These days, though, I keep all of it to myself.

Yeah, it's heckling, but I think it's a little weird to discount what the guard's heckling him about, i.e. his racial make up. Even if you restrict heckling to just looks, there's plenty of things the guard could've chosen, the most obvious being levels of attractiveness. But the guard chose race.

More importantly, you have to ask yourself why if it's "just heckling", we need to see the conversation. What's the importance of it? Hint: the importance is that Gaiman is showing us obliquely what Shadow looks like. There'd be no need to include random, trivial conversations, otherwise.

I only use pokemon I think are pretty.

Hmmm, I've never really thought about it. It's one of those things I know when I see it, but I'm not sure how to actually define it. I'm curious now what other people will say.

I define it as not confronting a problem directly, but then manipulating/punishing/tking it out on a person in smaller and subtler ways.

It is and it isn't. What it IS is really slow.

Which is good for me, as it means I don't miss out on stuff.

I wash and condition my hair every day.

If you haven't seen the whole show....well, damn, you probably haven't seen 'Starsky vs Hutch' yet have you? Ouch.

It's been a long time since I've seen the movie, so I don't remember if they stated it was the parents' agreement or not. I agree completely that it's an asinine way of doing a custody arrangement, but sometimes it's not up to the lawyers/judges. If the divorcing couple agree on the terms of a divorce, the judge basically just confirms it as an order. The lawyers are to represent the wishes of their clients, sometimes regardless of how ridiculous they're being.

Actually, David Tutera (a minor reality TV host) and his ex-husband are doing this with their twins (although I'm assuming they'll actually know the other exists). There is the added wrinkle that each man is keeping the child with his own DNA - they'd split by the time the surrogate gave birth. But it caused some ripples when they announced it, since everyone pretty much agrees that it's ridiculous. Even Tutera's ex, honestly, from what the interviews sound like. It's just a sad situation.

Gaiman simply suggests the person read more closely for things they might've missed, which is fair enough since the person directly addresses the issue of the text. I don't see that as condescending.

I'm glad you can enjoy the strength and bitterness that comes with the darker chocolates that causes me to have to wash the strength from my mouth.

We're not ever told he's African American though right? Just non-specifically dark-skinned.

ayrt

Because it shows how Shadow was treated in prison, his nonviolent reactions to being heckled, his large amount of patience, the way he's passive when confronted?

Those were what stuck out to me as important, not his race.
