25. OMG I so agree with you.

I heard about Matt before I even got to him while reading the manga, so I knew he was there. But when he was actually introduced I was expecting him to be a HUGE main character. And he isn't?! 0.o I always am questioning myself when people make a big deal about him; wondering if I just COMEPLETELY missed something?! I swear I was paying attention!

I don't understand why the whole fandom is having a community-wide panic attack about SH V. If it sucks, it sucks. It'll just be shucked to the side and ignored like 4 was, and people seem to forget that 4 was Konami and Team Silent's brainchild.

Yes, yes, I know that 4 originally wasn't part of the franchise, but I guarantee that SH V will be snubbed in exactly the same way if it doesn't live up to some -- SOME -- of the fandom's crazy standards.

It might not be all bad. Srsly, guys. America is not absolute fail when it comes to developing video games. Try and focus on the positive things, like MORE YAMAOKA MUSIC OMFG and that The Collective seems really enthusiastic and honored to take the helm.

They are not going to screw this up and I heartily anticipate the game. It will be fabulous.

I really like 4. :( That's a lonely place in fandom. I'm a bit torn towards 5. Some of the changes mentioned are a bit unusual sounding, but I really am looking forward to more Yamaoka music. :3 Can't judge a game that isn't even MADE yet! I look forward to giving it a try.

bahahaha, okay, maybe i don't have quite as tragic a case of the n00bs as i thought. i kept seeing his name in fic pairings, and i figured it was some incredibly popular fandom OC or something (hey, i've seen it happen) until he finally showed up in canon and... didn't really do much. i'm glad i'm not entirely alone in my confusion.

granted, i've fangirled extremely minor characters and given them entire complex backstories and paired them with everyone under the sun as well (what what, pansy parkinson), but damn. death note fandom does it with style ;D

Hell, I've seen people accused of homophobia based on not thinking certain pairs were canon, regardless of shipping preferences and what they liked to write. I've been outright told what to write and what I was allowed to think. Let me tell you it pissed me off and had very much the opposite effect from the one apparently desired. I've seen people insit that their personal fanon was canon and that everyone must agree and obey or they were stupid. I've seen people who proudly claim to "think outside the box" scream at others for doing the same (i.e. not thinking like they did).

And I've seen people jump to conclusions about fandom to real life attitudes, even from those who've been victims of it themselves. I've seen people demand "my way or the highway" for all of fandom - on both sides of the fence.

There are people on this very thread who need to own up. There are people who should not pretend that they are innocent.

Though maybe all of us go through our "rabid fanbrat" stage and (hopefully) eventually grow out of it. Perhaps everyone can move onto new fandoms and grow up in old ones.

But man, putting up with this junk from fans in the "fanbrat stage" is dammed annoying.
