I think it is Dragon Age?

(Anonymous) 2014-09-12 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Could also be Dorian Gray.

Unfortunately there's a bunch of these fucks in the DA fandom (see: the trans fenris bullshit) and nothing can really be done. Best to just block them and move on

Wait what? Fenris and trans? I mean...what?

(Anonymous) 2014-09-12 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
I'll admit, found that idea interesting because of mechanics. Though, you think yourself into a corner.

1) Did he take anything to make his voice drop? Did the lyrium damage his vocal cords?

2) If there was some sort of a magic potion / spell to replace our stuff, would it interfer with the markings?

3) What if this was all due to Danarius? And if not, would breast removal be possible with famed markings?

See, it's fun xD . It would be more possible for him to be a trans woman than a dude because of the improbability of passing due to circumstances. Yes, I think too much.

Oh, Dragon Age fandom...
kaijinscendre: (karlurbansex)

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2014-09-12 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, headcanons about anything don't bother me until they start acting like that. Headcanon what you want, but don't act like yours is more superior than everyone else.

Though, as someone who enjoys Gen fic, I do get a bit perturbed that people seem to automatically think two characters(generally male) are romantically involved. I just want more friendships. ;_;

If this is about the DA character, why would they assume that they would even have testosterone drugs there? I mean, I guess it's not IMPOSSIBLE that they have some kind of equivalent, but...

I don't care if people have headcanons but when they start pushing these headcanons on other people for their sjw anti-cis-scum-whatever agenda, it's just really stupid and annoying.

Some go so far as to claim their headcanons are actual canon. These people need to seek psychiatric help because they're clearly delusional.

I also thought they meant Dorian Gray at first.

If this is about the DA game, I'mma stay far away from the fandom if there is wank on there already. The game hasn't even come out yet, dammit. Anyway, 4 notes is not much at all, so I would assume most people saw this and just scrolled on by.

I've heard how shitty the Dragon Age fandom is but... Damn. Best to stay the fuck away.

lol, what.

Trans headcanons are fine. But why make it an imaginary battle with cis people? (Also way to imply that everyone who is trans must by default support your trans headcanon? that's just weird)

I'm rather grateful I've not encountered such fans in DA. I stay away from tumblr, the BSN, and only hang out at the DA comm on LJ and one of the ones on FB.

i actually agree with this because, being an active part of the fandom, and following a lot of lgbt fans who share this aggressive mindset, it's actually really toxic. they like to write it off as harmless, and it SHOULD be, and CAN be, but those same people maliciously criticise anybody who doesnt revolve their perception of [character] around their supposed transness.

i don't think it's necessary or nice to criticise trans headcanons bc theyre just headcanons and thats ok. but a lot of dragon age fans who have trans headcanons seem to forget it's a headcanon, and that people not automatically pointing at fenris, for instance, and being like HE'S TRANS arent actively being transphobic or whatever.

i also don't see a problem in contending the headcanon that someone is trans. if your personal view of a character is that they aren't, then so be it. as long as you arent telling people theyre wrong if they do think a character is, then your own headcanon is harmless. this fandom is fucking ridiculous.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-12 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
How can you see this as being overly aggressive? This person is saying that if someone challenges their headcanon they will defend and explain it.
If I headcanon a character as something, and someone tells me it's "wrong", what should I do? Immediately fold and go, yes, of course you're right, he's not, I won't read him as trans anymore? Like, the only situation where "aggressively defending" lgbt headcaonons even comes up is when people come to you and tell you that they're impossible and you're delusional. The secret even provides a good example itself. People being shitty about trans headcanons happens all the time, I have never actually seen someone get attacked for not sharing a headcanon. Not saying it doesn't happen, but it's not a widespread fandom problem. What I do see happen is people arguing against the idea that a character can't be gay or trans because of historical accuracy or whatever, and there is nothing wrong with that.

All of your "I dont mind lgbt headcanons until they get pushy" bullshit is just that.

Hahaha, Dorian so doesn't have magic. (Or facial hair, for that matter).

I mean, if we wanted to headcanon Dorian as trans, we could do that, but it'd open a lot of knotty plot points to deal with. At worst, Dorian as a trans man (and handled badly) could invalidate the homosexual themes of the novel and edge towards the gender variant = evil side of things. At best, a thorough and conscientious reworking could not only result in an interesting portrayal of a trans man, but also more importance and significance given to Basil's [incontrovertibly gay] relationship with Dorian.

Sorry. My trans headcanon button got pushed and the words just happened :)

(we are talking about Dorian Gray, right? I don't really know of any other Dorians)

EDIT: The other comments seem to be pretty sure that this is a different Dorian. But my rant stands.

Headcanoning a character as trans: fine and dandy
Going over the source material and constructing a reasonable argument to back up your trans headcanon: awesome
Trawling for SJW brownie points because you have a trans headcanon and they don't: shoo! get out of my internet!

We-ell... If they are going around and posting comments to other people's posts, castigating them for not thinking Dorian (my mind went straight to the Tevinvter Dorian) is trans, then yes, they're being utterly pathetic.

If however they are simply sitting on their own blog saying "Oh hey! I think Dorian is trans! Come at me cis people!", then any cis people who decide to argue with them are chumps who took the bait.

I do think a comment like that might be baiting people to respond, but I think the idiot who reply to it are the real idiots.

Honestly? I have little to no opinion on Dorian (the Dragon Age one). I may form a better idea of him once I have the game and really see him. The thing is, I don't really have trans headcanons, so... it's just not my thing? I will be fine just seeing him as the gay man the writers have written him as being.

I don't see what suggests that user needs help? It's just a headcanon. They're not actually going to go out into the streets and yell at people, it's a rhetorical device. (An annoying one, but still.)
