A lot of money? Alright.

Anita, I think, just ended up in too big of a position compared to what she expected and had little contact with gamer culture (or whatever you want to call it) beforehand. That isn't to say she hasn't made mistakes, but I think anyone in her position would have. I don't really care for her videos or follow her at all, but I don't have any ill will towards her either.

Quinn, on the other hand, dear lord. I think people should avoid that women at all costs.

This is me! I actually quite like Anita's videos, though her personality doesn't really appeal to me (she seems to take everything super seriously. Which is fine, because what she's dealing with IS really serious, but it's not for me.)

But Zoe Quinn just seems like an attention seeker. That doesn't mean she deserves any of the death threats or doxxing or anything like that, of course, but, gosh. She seems like a really unpleasant person, though.

Bullshit. She raised 160,000. And what has she made from that? Like 2 videos. That look EXACTLY like the videos she made before. Her dumb face in front of a blank wall with occasional video game clips. Video game clips that she STOLE from Let's Plays. So she isn't even playing the games (you know the ones she was supposed to buy with all that money). And then she blatantly LIES in her videos. This isn't including shit she complains about that is cherry picked and taken out of context. She also ignores anything that does not support her idiotic claims.

The thing is, she asked for the money to buy the games/gaming systems. When she turns around, and doesn't even use her own footage, but footage from other people, it doesn't make her look good, and it just makes her look like she didn't actually play the games she's complaining about.

Which she probably didn't, let's be real.

Yeah, this. I frankly find it annoying all this other shit is dredged up because there are legit reasons to not like her work and to critique it.

The problem is she's right with the main themes of her work, she's just a horrible, horrible representative of the message.

She obviously had no clue people would donate THAT much. No one could have expected it. All that money put her in an awkward position and, heck, is she supposed to make hundreds of videos now because people went crazy with donating?

If I were her I'd spend a reasonable amount on making the videos I've promised, but pocket the rest. IMO it's not too unreasonable to say a lot of people would.

The honest thing to do is either find a way to use it for what I promised to use it for or find a way to give it back.

Geeze I kinda thought this was common knowledge. It's an honesty thing. If people donate a bunch of money to someone believing that they're going to do this one thing with it and they pocket it...that's called fraud.

Being a woman and having a cause doesn't exempt you from being honest with money.

(this kind of thing is why I avoid asking for donations of money for anything with out earning it, TBH)

It's only fraud if the person with the money doesn't also do what they promised. She's making videos, but a portion of that money, at least, has to go to overhead and living expenses. It's not like she took the money and ran off to some tropical island.

Of course it's an honesty thing but spending 160,000 on making Youtube videos? Isn't it a waste of money? Even if she started doing vids about feminism in other media, feminist issues in general, etc, till she's 80 years old, she'd still be left with a huge sum of money.

At this point it would be easier to simply donate it to some good cause or spend it in a way that promotes feminism. Cause Youtube gamer videos ain't it.

Eh. It still bothers me that she KEEPS ASKING even when she has enough. That's what gets me. She's STILL asking.

and not improving her videos or delivering ALL of the ones she promised to boot. It's one thing to make all the videos she promised and then ask for more but from what I saw she still hasn't done like most of what she promised NOR has she improved the quality.

But her videos looked exactly the same. If she got hte system, if she got the new camera, if she did any of that stuff, it didn't show. It looks like the few thousand that was her goal was never spent on that (or she's really really bad at using it)

But if she had done all that, spent her 6000 (I think that's what it was) and then spent the other thousands on herself, well, whatever. People could see her kickstarter funds bar, they kept giving anyway. But the fact she didn't even do that amount she said she would is either insulting or at best a sign those funds were not given to the right person.

If the amount of money she received bugged people, then they could just not donate anymore. I mean that would pretty much solve any personal problem they had. If anyone else wanted to donate despite the amounts and the alleged lack of activity then that would be up to them, wouldn't it? So it seems simple, if someone objects to what she is doing, don't donate and don't watch her vids. Problem solved. Getting upset because she says things you don't agree with on the internet and has found a way to make money without as much effort as is deemed morally appropriate, seems pretty much a first world problem right there.

Can I ask why about Quinn?

I mean, as I understand it, she designed a game (that some people didn't care for) and an ex wrote some lies about her having sex with game journalists (so she could get publicity or something, I'm not really clear on what she was supposed to have got out of it).

Not everything here is valid, but I do think there's a few that are.

My biggest issue is the whole Ouren incident, where a dude mentioned some sexual abuse things on twitter about her (I think it was before the whole ex thing), and a bunch of her friends shut the dude up and she's never addressed it.

Knowyourmeme isn't exactly neutral on the whole affair -- 4channers have been heavily influential in what it covers from pretty much day one. Note that, for instance, it doesn't include a single mention of the logs Quinn made of #burgersandfries, and the coordination of harassment and doxxing that went on there. (It does mention it on the Gamergate page... but gives her revelations very little credence, compared to how it treats Milo Yiannopoulos's *shocking* revelation that journalists in many fields sometimes talk to each other.)

What was that about? Because if you've not made your sexual abuse public (or have done so in a private public kind of way, like journaling in a friends locked journal), and someone pulls that up and tries to broadcast, that is TOTALLY a good reason to have your friends shut someone down.
