This was such a good show and that was an excellent episode. Part of the reason it's such a good show/episode is that it's timeless. The themes will never go out of date or be irrelevant.

That episode was dark, but without being grimdark like the current DC movies. Just that 2nd parter of a 2 part did more to convey and display the nature of heroism in 25 minutes than the entire Dark Knight trilogy and Man of Steel movies did. Fuckit DC, put stuff like that on screen. And it didn't end with anything morally ambiguous or murky either.

Exactly. The JL might've been flawed, but they were a likeable flawed. They were flawed and they still tried to do the right thing.

When we talk of heroes making the "hard choices" that is the choice and the answer we want to see.

To switch fandoms for a moment and steal from Doctor Who, better to risk failing at doing the right thing than succeed at doing the wrong thing.

Switching back, if it was animated now, or worse, part of the current DC comic lineup that would end with everyone swallowing the Stepford koolaid for the greater good.

I agree. It's also just one of those shows that has something for everybody. When it was still airing, my whole family would watch the new episodes together; that's actually one of my fondest memories as a child. The DCAU in general has a lot of good stuff and I kind of wish they would stick to animation and give up on live action because their film verse is...a bit lackluster in comparison (of course, that would never happen because money).

They've given up on animation because the fans turned out to be mostly female and they didn't know how to sell boy's toys to girls. Because the marketing department just isn't bright enough to dump an arbitrary division or how to work with anything other than a pre-approved advertizers list.
