I mean, I guess you could say that movie fandoms have a pretty equal content to time ratio, but TV vs movie fandom standards always felt different to me.

But it is a good example of an old but thriving fandom, as are the Tolkien and the Sherlock Holmes fanbases; the difference being that the Sherlock fandom is all online and so has 1) much more visibility, 2) more visual content and 3) more interactivity. I've never seen another purely (or almost purely) online fandom blossom like this before, so that'd be the main source of confusion for me.

The sheer popularity of this show just makes me think of how many shows and books are immeasurably better but will never have even one percent of the Sherlock fanbase. Sometimes I wish the hiatuses got so long that all the fans would go away, leaving behind the confused Cumberbatch&Freeman duo stuck in the midst of eyeroll-worthy plots.
/bitter dmw is bitter.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-02 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)sometimes I look at the Sherlock fandom and get horribly jealous. How I wish ACD canon, Granada, and the Soviet series had half as much wonderful currently-produced fanart
Yeah, I wish they had more high quality fanart too but I also comfort myself with the fact that it's at least easier to find good fic for those series...with Sherlock, there's such a high rate of badfic that you really have to search hard for anything that doesn't suck or doesn't involve woobielock

Ficlets, though, and other forms of short fanfic - about this I can agree with you. We have lots, almost all of it good 9_9

Not sure what kind of fan that makes me.
