Isn't that the same amount of time they had between every season (season 1 was 2012, season 2 was 2012 and season 3 was 2014)? If two years wasn't enough for them to give a season 3 that wasn't shitty, then why would it help for the fourth season?

I've never understood how a fandom can be as large and active as Sherlock's is when all they get is three episodes every two years.

I mean, I guess you could say that movie fandoms have a pretty equal content to time ratio, but TV vs movie fandom standards always felt different to me.

I'm just not sure how capable they are of doing that, or even how interested they are in doing it. I think a lot of this is just who they are as people who make TV.

But then I've never really liked Sherlock much, so feel free to take that with a grain of salt.

I don't mind either, but then again I think one of the things I like about Sherlock is that it's so short. It's harder for me to keep up with shows that have 24 episode seasons.

(And yea, it might be bad, but considering I still enjoyed season 3 I'll probably be able to deal.)

Well, they're already working on the special and rumour has it that will be out sometime next year, possibly Christmas, so it won't be 2016.

Also, while I personally liked S3 and the fact that it was different, I can understand why some people might have been disappointed. From what I've heard though, they did say this wasn't the new norm. They are committed to the idea of 'a show about a detective, not a detective show', but also said the mysteries were obviously a big part of that. Basically, they wanted to change the formula a bit partly because it would be a strange time in the characters' lives, but they didn't plan to keep it that way. So while it might not exactly return to S1 and S2 format, it won't be S3 either. At least, that's how I understood their explanation. It would fit with what's probably coming up in terms of story.

That's a lofty dream. Considering that they won an Emmy for the awfulness that was S3 and it was overall critically acclaimed, I doubt they see any issues they need to fix. Too bad.
