IDK, some girls go by Ruby. I'm sure someone could make it a thing.

That isn't a very bad name, to be honest.

There's worse names, anon. Believe me. You would not be the first person to name their kid after a word in another language that they thought sounded pretty, and "cerulean" actually does mean something nice, which puts it well above some of the other ones I've heard.

It'd be a more unique name, to be sure. And honestly not a bad one. I wouldn't mind being named that color :p.

It is a nice sounding word and I've come across much worse names, like an ex-coworker who named her daughter Cliche because she thought it sounded pretty. And she *was* a native English speaker.

I knew a girl named Teale growing up, so it's not unheard of.

If you ever do have kids, you could always name a kid 'Sera' in homage?

It's not a commonly used word, so I wouldn't be surprised if even native speakers didn't know it was a shade of blue. Plus I don't think it would make that bad of a name.
miku_hatsune: (Default)

[personal profile] miku_hatsune 2014-11-06 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure there's alternatives that sound more "name like" but its not really a bad sounding name.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-06 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Meh, Scarlet is a legit name. And wasn't there an actress in Buffy called Indigo?

There are far worse things to name your kid after.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-06 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
::shrug:: I like it.

I would so side-eye a baby called "Cerulean", because that is a villain-sounding name. Just say it out loud. "You may call me, Cerulean." /shiver

I had a friend in high school named Azure.

You could aleays name a pet Cerulean if you're not comfortable giving that name to a child.

So? Blue is a shad of blue and that didn't stop Beyonce from doing it. And I hate Beyonce, so that's saying something coming from me.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-06 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
It' pretty OP, and there have definitely been worse names. Plus, there always has to be a first for everything, right?

On a different, but less serious note, this secret has made me want to name my children 'Incarnadine' and Multitudinous'. Such great words.

I think it would be a pretty name. I know someone who named their daughter Scarlett Rose, so I don't know how Cerulean would be that much weirder.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-06 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
No worries OP. You should have seen the list of of names I wanted to name my non existent children when I was younger. Countries, colors, creeds, nouns, verbs, even whole groups of people...nothing was safe from my voracious naming appetite. NOTHING.

I think it works fine as a name? There are other 'color names' in English.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-06 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
You could have it be a name, it's no more far fetched than some names I've encountered.

Fun story! During my junior year, we had an exchange student from Japan who called herself "Clear". She had to pick a name for her English class back in Japan and she wanted to be "Claire" but said "Clear" instead and it ended up sticking. No one asked any questions and for almost the full year, basically nobody knew that her name *wasn't* "Clear".

(Anonymous) 2014-11-06 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
It's definitely a unique name! I don't see anything wrong with it.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-06 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
Pearl, Rose, Jade...probably others. I wouldn't have judged you. But then, I'm not a name snob.

There's nothing wrong with using a color as a name.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-06 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
And Cerulean sounds nice to me. But I've heard of Pink, Scarlet, Auburn, Gray, Silver, Goldie, Violet, Emerald, Hazel, Ivory, Jade, Ruby, Tawny, and Rainbow. As for blue color names that people use, there's Blue, Sky, Sapphire, Azure, Indigo, Aqua, and Cyan.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-06 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
Have two girls, name 'em Cerulean and Viridian.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-06 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
Echoing the "its not that bad of a name" crowd. Its a little long, but its not like calling your kid "Blanket" or something like that.

Hell, my mom knew someone who named their kid "Dog." That's a mean thing to name your kid. Cerulean is at least a pretty sounding word associated with a nice color.
