It can be patronizing, too, and I can see why OP would find it very irritating because the family isn't paying attention to what OP really likes and why. I wonder if the family even ask OP what OP thinks of any of it, just assumes OP loves everything in a huge spectrum of interests.

If the family really wanted to relate, they would ask OP about OP's interests, what OP likes and what OP sees in their interests, not just assume something the family likes is tops on OP's list and expects OP to sit and waste time watching something for the sake of "family."

This family isn't relating, they are defining OP into a little box.

-The Doctor moping over rose for a whole Series

-Retconning the Masters backstory down to "LOL DRUMS" and trying to turn him into a sympathetic character
-Jesus Doctor
-10th Doctor saying he "forgives" him and telling how "beautiful" he could be and offers him to travel in the tardis forever with him
-A MAN THAT NEVER WOULD
-Rose not developing at all as a character and still fanwing over the doctor even after years away in the alternate universe
-creating a sex clone of the doctor to pawn off to rose so they can have a happy ending and having them kiss
-The Master flying in the air and shooting lightning bolts out of his arms
-Skeleton Master
-IM HUNGRY
-Completely going against the mythology and making the doctor say that regeneration is like Death and having him go out like a bitch

Since they want to find common ground with you, why not suggest that you all try watching something that you do like? There's got to be something out there that you all can sincerely enjoy together.

I don't get moffat hate. His arcs are pretty dumb and have bad resolutions, but his baseline 'average' episodes are much better than their RTD counterparts.

Moffat era 'bad' is also a lot easier to swallow than RTD cringe in general.

Hm, I was in the same boat until Capaldi converted me, s8 has actually been surprisingly good? I've seen some griping about the grimness but with Breaking Bad as my last major fandom it's been a surprisingly smooth transition in terms of quality acting and decent character development.

Look OP, at least you know they have their hearts in the right place. They're trying to get involved in your field of interests and they may have misfired, but it's a lot more then other families do. It may be petty, but I remember when I had a Joker obsession a few years ago and would buy merchandise for myself, my family took the piss out of me for it. You're lucky, OP.

Maybe the type of things that appeal to you doesn't appeal to them?
This happens a lot to me, I like things that the majority of people around me don't. This even applies for Doctor Who. I like the show as a whole (NuWho-wise), but I enjoy Moffat's era of the Doctors (Capaldi and Smith) more than RTD's, while plot-wise, I think they're both fine but I usually prefer Moffat's too. I agree that Moffat's women aren't better than RTD's, though.

I think there is a lot of contrast between RTD's and Moffat's era, so if you did give Moffat's era a go and didn't like it, then I see no point in you having to continue to watch a show for the sake of your family, tbh. I mean, I love my family, but why would I need to forcefully watch shows I don't even like for their sake, that's my time wasted.

You've could avoided this crazy resentment if you actually told them that you'd thought it mediocre. I mean sure they mightn't have believed you initially, but you going 'hmm, nah' for a little while and leaving the room when it was on would have given them the hint.

And if they complained about your lack of interest, present them with 'THING YOU ACTUALLY DO LIKE' and let the pieces fall what they may.
