well, that's pretty subjective. I've definitely enjoyed some YA fiction more than I've enjoyed critically acclaimed classics

imo, there's no "better or worse" there's just "this is my cup of tea" and "this isn't."

I am interpreting this as "is there any instance of a work of fiction classified as YA that is, in your opinion, better than some work of fiction commonly identified as a classic and praised by people who consider themselves critics". In which case yes, duh. If on the other hand you meant to say "better than every work of fiction commonly identified" etc., then no, duh. If only because if the YA book is considered good, you can probably find people claiming it is a critically acclaimed classic, and it can't very well be better than itself.

That's really too broad of a question, though. Like, how you define "critically acclaimed classics" and even more importantly, how do you define "better"?

Bad question because many critically acclaimed classics get onto the YA shelves by virtue of being taught in middle or high school.

But sure, *Charlie and the Chocolate Factory* is a great novel written for juvenile readers. *My Uncle Oswald* is just plain juvenile. I'd put Harry Potter over either Christopher Tolkien's attempts to polish works his father left unpublished for a reason, or Lewis's axe-grinding apologetic as science fiction. (The bar for religion in science fiction is set by *Canticle for Leibowitz* which gets shelved on YA by virtue of being on the HS curriculum.) As much as I love Le Guin, *Earthsea* improves as an allegory for Taoism on *Lathe of Heaven.*

The problem with most YA fiction is that a lot of it tends to be very tropey and share a lot of the same characteristics from book to book as well as contemporary popular media aimed at children. This isn't bad in and of itself, but that it's so common in YA fiction shows a lack of creativity.

I'd still rather read it than 95% of so-called 'classical literature.'

Critically acclaimed classics then to be very racist / misogynist / homophobic. YA, while lower quality, tends to be much more inclusive and accepting.

So I'd say all instances.

give it enough time and some YA novels become acclaimed classics

or do you think Dickens, Jane Austen, Shakespear (etc)
were anything but popular fiction at their time?

HP, Hunger Games, Twilight will all go down in history as influencial and therefore become "classics" to understand our times.

Hmm, I think the book "My Sparkle Boo and I'm Secretly Hot Too" might be. Or the classic "I'm Sexy But I Don't Know It Damn He Has Two Colored Eyes"

Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon?

Those are two stupidly large sets of things you're asking us to compare, so it's probably not a good comparison to make
