Basically, though I do think Book 3 > Book 4.

I don't want it to be over :(

Same on all points.

The only thing this season has over Book 3 is that Bolin has grown up and got to team up with Varrick.

If it makes you feel any better, anon, I've been meaning to catch up on it since I've heard S3 and S4 are so much better :)

For what it's worth, I consider any show that has bad episodes a bad show, so it doesn't matter if it improved XD

Wouldn't that mean ...basically all shows are bad? I haven't yet seen a show that doesn't have at least a few episodes I'm not impressed with.

this sounds like an excuse not to watch a series so that you don't have to reconcile with being wrong about something (or laziness, possibly both.)

I agree so much. Well, actually I even really liked the second season myself. I just through the first was sub-par and so...atypical for the whole universe. It is just really unfortunate to start a series that way.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-13 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been following friends talk about the series since the first season, and while it definitely sounds more intense and ~hardcore~, the writing of the characters is still shit. What they do with Korra is shit. It will always be subpar to ATLA, especially since it doesn't have the same writing team that made ALA so great. Mike and Bryan are as bad as A&E from OUaT.

I...what? I have no idea what you're saying here, they created both shows. And I just checked, all of the LoK writers also wrote for AtLA.

Here, here. I would even venture to say that Korra at its best tops the best of the original series. The latter is of course far more consistent.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-14 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
I don't agree. The finale of ATLA was just downright mindblowing, and I don't think the finale of LOK is going to be anywhere near that good.

I do really enjoy LOK, though.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-14 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
I strongly disagree, if only because even if the plot/worldbuilding/animation is good, korra fundamentally failed at making a core cast of really good fleshed out genuinely likeable characters with friendships that formed the core of the show.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-13 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree. It's really frustrating that it took the show so long to find it's groove. Because at it's best I enjoy it more than the first Avatar

(Anonymous) 2014-12-13 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
ahahaha do you still think this even after the ridiculous giant robot

(Anonymous) 2014-12-13 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
You haven't watched much mecha have you?

(Anonymous) 2014-12-14 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
That was fucking metal

(Anonymous) 2014-12-13 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel so guilty about not watching past the first two seasons

(Anonymous) 2014-12-14 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
You really shouldn't. It took LoK 26 episodes to get beyond bad pacing and plotting, which is a big time investment. Plus it shat all over many of the AtLA characters and their accomplishments.

that is a pretty big entry barrier though. Few people will sit through two whole seasons of shit just to get to the good stuff. Hell I won't sit through two episodes of shit most of the time.

Man, everyone loves shitting on early Korra! I didn't think the first season was fabulous, but it was pretty enjoyable, and I thought the second season was great. I think everyone had really overblown expectations.

I keep worriedly waiting for the next shoe to drop. I was so let down by the first 2 (2 in particular) that I'm kind of :) but also a lot of anticipatory :/

(Anonymous) 2014-12-14 10:37 am (UTC)(link)
They shouldn't have made the first two seasons suck, then.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-14 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Tbh I still like Book 1 the best. Rather, early book 1 because it gave me so much exhilaration. I feel like episodes 1-6 were great! The fandom was incredible at the time. It's just so disappointing how the latter half fell apart.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-14 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I'd say the first half of the first season of Korra is actually pretty good although there definitely were signs that the series was going to go downhill. The second half of the season went downhill pretty fast and by the last episode it was bad enough I quit.

Recently I picked it back up again and am watching the 2nd season. So far the episodes seem to vary in quality. I'm just about to start the first avatar episode which I hear are the best of that season.

Honestly, I do think AtLA is better than LoK because even the worst episodes of AtLA are better than the worst of LoK. Also the worst of LoK tend to be pretty important to the story like the finale of season 1. Whereas AtLA had some pretty shitty filler eps but for the most part their plot based eps were on point. I think the weakest plot episode was the 3rd seasons finale and LoK season 1 finale made that episode look like gold. I'll make my final judgment though when the series ends. I'm glad they got back on their feet though.
