I like substance more than artstyle, and most anime now are just sexualized moe blobs, stuff boarding on pedophilia/Incest, or the same re-heated shit over and over again. The only two things I can think of that have been at least original/fun are AOT and Free.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-29 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
there's a lot of cruft, but it's pretty telling you think free! and aot are the only somewhat original things to come out recently

and the moe fad's pretty much over

The characters, especially the girls, are drawn in a very infantalized way. Big heads, big eyes. When they're put in love stories it just gets creepy.

Although it's not like Disney has just suddenly started doing this because of anime. It was even worse in the past. Look at Snow White way back. She was only 14, and she got with her Prince at the end. She looked even younger than that, even though she had that layer of makeup on.

Snow White came out in the 30s, and is completely innocuous compared to modern anime with lolicon shit. Poor comparison.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-29 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Why does coming out in the thirties mean anything?

Idealized porcelain girl is still just as skeevy.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-29 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
'Idealized porcelain girl'. It's Snow White, dumbass.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-29 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
guess that makes it okay for something like "my underage sister who isn't blood related is in love with me!?!" to have a sexualized preteen then since it'd be in the title and all

(Anonymous) 2014-12-29 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
But listen she's a 3000 year old vampire si it's fine JEEZ

(Anonymous) 2014-12-29 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
only half vampire, so it's only half right

there's a heart-crushing arc about it though, so you once you get past the first five seasons and the three movies (and completely uncensored OVAs), i'm you'll understand why it's really okay and super hard for the two of them

(Anonymous) 2014-12-29 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
The original tale comes from an age where a lot of fucked up things happened.

Besides, it was the 'idealized porcelain girl' part I had issue with. You might have noticed, seeing as I quoted it and all.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-29 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
my point's that "idealized porcelain girl" is skeevy, regardless of the title or era it's from (and considering snow white is still marketed by disney when they've phased out song of the south and business is based in making fairy tales family friendly, i don't think it's from the 30's holds much weight anywho), so i'm a little confused why you keep on bringing those in to justify it

The characters, especially the girls, are drawn in a very infantalized way. Big heads, big eyes.

uh, you do know that anime style was based on characters like betty boop, right?

(Anonymous) 2014-12-29 07:51 am (UTC)(link)
ayrt

I wasn't talking about anime - I mentioned Disney's Snow White specifically as an example.

Which only shows that the criticism applies equally to both styles.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-29 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
how is that something to criticize? it's a very obvious stylization that isn't meant to look realistic. most cartoons are stylized to some degree in different ways. you may not like it, but that doesn't make it objectively bad.

You should watch Guilty Crown, SAO and Mahouka, you probably will think they are 10/10 masterpieces.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-29 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
da

I actually thought Guilty Crown was one of the best anime I've seen in a while because it had characters that acted like real humans (which meant that they all did stupid, selfish, short-sighted things at some point) instead of like tropes.

Then again, that's probably why a lot of people didn't like it.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-29 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
No, we didn't like it because it was a poorly written and boring trainwreck with a terrible plot, bland one-dimensional characters and Inori had no personality. Only good thing about GC was Egoist.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-29 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
uh... did you actually watch the show? i would hardly call it a masterpiece but one-dimensional characters wasn't one of its problems.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-29 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
AOT and Free

Troll detected.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-29 09:53 am (UTC)(link)
now sis I like Free but it was by no means original, it was every sports anime but with swimming
