I understand why this is very "WTF", but...the Doctor isn't a good person, people. He's a NICE person, he's got a hell of a lot of redeeming qualities, but he's ALWAYS been flighty (as far as I can tell) and he makes snap decisions, usually with the help of tunnel vision, too. NOT ALWAYS, but again, he's not a good person. He'd like to be, I'm sure, but he does make a few mistakes--and that was one of them. Granted, if he hadn't hopped in to save her, history could have gotten an assraping, BUT STILL.

Nice =/= Good

And while he's technically very much ON the good side, he knows more about right and wrong than 'good' sometimes.

So yeah, I understand where you're coming from, but I'd rather look at as an episode with some character flaws. Those are nice once and a while. Besides, he'd be pretty one-dimensional if EVERY EPISODE, he made all the right choices and always followed through and ALWAYS was there to keep Rose out of DANGER OMG. That's not the Doctor at all.

I understand what you are saying, I've been watching Who since the 80s... and sure it's definitely not been the first time he's made the wrong choice but this one felt a little too far for my tastes and really showed a disregard for his companions if something better comes along. That's not just a character flaw that's cruel. :\

Despite the "no matter what you say," I feel the need to point out that they keep throwing in superfluous Ginny in the movies because they'll need to make H/G seem less "where the FUCK did that come from?" than it did in the books. I mean, okay, Ginny had a crush on Harry for ages, and he pretty much thought of her as just "Ron's sister" -- and then all of a sudden he's got this massive crush on her? What? :|

Despite the "no matter what you say," I feel the need to point out that they keep throwing in superfluous Ginny in the movies because they'll need to make H/G seem less "where the FUCK did that come from?" than it did in the books.

...But that doesn't even make any sense. They don't add superfluous Ginny at all. She has like a tenth of the screentime she does in the books in the movies. They cut out every single storyline with her outside CoS and she just stands there in the background and makes generic exposition comments from time to time or does a spell. I doubt most of the non book reading audience knows her as anything but "Ron's sister," let alone remembers her crush on Harry (it was so vaguely brushed upon on the CoS movie). If they wanted it to seem "less random" they'd ADD screentime, not take away everything JKR has given her.
